About the role

In this project, you will support the development of standoff sensor systems designed to detect threat objects before they can cause harm. This system addresses an urgent need to protect U.S. military and civilian personnel, both abroad and at home. You will be part of a dynamic team of engineers, scientists, and programmers, working alongside top talent from the civilian, contractor, and military sectors at one of the nation's premier laboratories. You will have access to advanced test equipment and analysis software and help develop and test systems that provide advanced RF sensing capabilities for the standoff detection of threats. Your work will advance the state of the art and address real-world challenges.

By applying your hands-on knowledge of radar antennas and systems, you will play a direct role in transitioning this technology from the laboratory to the battlefield. You will build expertise in radar system development, system design, and hardware/software integration, gaining exposure to new analysis tools, test equipment, and testing methods. Professional development is encouraged and expected.

Responsibilities

  • Perform studies to design, simulate, and optimize novel RF antennas.
  • Fabricate simulated antennas and verify and validate their performance characteristics.
  • Participate in field tests, as appropriate.
  • Engage in design and analysis, software and hardware testing and evaluation, customer meetings, and design review meetings.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or current enrollment in a Bachelor of Science program in Electrical Engineering.
  • Experience with software-defined radios such as UHD, USRP, X310s, and BladeRF.
  • Experience designing and simulating RF antennas and circuitry.
  • Hands-on experience with RF circuitry, spectrum analyzers, network analyzers, analog circuits, and oscilloscopes.
  • Experience programming in MATLAB and Python.
  • Experience with simulation and design software such as FEKO, Altium, and Bambu Studio.
  • Ability to think creatively and solve problems in a collaborative environment.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience with direction finding techniques, including beamforming, MUSIC, and antenna arrays.
  • Experience using anechoic chambers and network/spectrum analyzers for electromagnetic measurements.

Schedule

Flexible schedule; approximately 10-12 hours per week.

US Citizenship is required.
