About the role

Mid- to Senior-Level Radar and Combat Systems Engineer to support mission-critical engineering activities at Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren Division in Dahlgren, Virginia. The successful candidate will apply expertise in the AN/SPY radar family, Mk 99 Fire Control System, radar signal processing, and Aegis Weapon System integration to support system analysis, modeling, integration, testing, and performance evaluation. The engineer will work with government and industry teams to assess radar and fire-control performance, analyze test and operational data, investigate system anomalies, and develop technically sound recommendations for complex air and missile defense challenges. This position requires an understanding of radar principles and the ability to evaluate how sensors, fire-control systems, weapons, and combat-system elements operate together throughout an engagement.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze AN/SPY radar performance, including detection, tracking, discrimination, resource management, and engagement-support functions.
  • Support engineering activities involving AN/SPY-1, AN/SPY-6, AN/SPY-7, or related phased-array radar technologies.
  • Evaluate Mk 99 Fire Control System and AN/SPG-62 illuminator performance in support of Standard Missile engagements.
  • Analyze radar signal-processing functions such as detection, filtering, pulse compression, Doppler processing, clutter suppression, beamforming, track formation, and electronic protection.
  • Assess interfaces and data flows among radar, command-and-decision, weapon-control, fire-control, and missile systems.
  • Develop models, simulations, algorithms, or analytical tools to evaluate system behavior and performance.
  • Analyze recorded test, exercise, laboratory, and fleet data to identify performance trends, anomalies, and root causes.
  • Support system integration, verification, validation, and formal test events in laboratory, land-based, and operational environments.
  • Define test objectives, success criteria, data requirements, and analysis methods.
  • Investigate discrepancies involving sensor measurements, track quality, engagement timelines, interfaces, or system-level performance.
  • Prepare technical reports, briefings, test documentation, engineering assessments, and recommendations for government stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with Navy engineers, warfare-center personnel, fleet representatives, laboratories, and industry partners.
  • Provide technical mentorship and help develop P17's radar, combat-systems, and signal-processing capabilities.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, systems engineering, physics, mathematics, computer science, or a related technical field.
  • Mid to Senior level experience
  • 5 + years of relevant engineering experience; senior candidates should generally possess ten or more years.
  • Active DoD security clearance or ability to obtain and maintain the clearance required for the position.
  • Experience in one or more of the following areas:
    • Radar systems
    • Aegis Weapon System
    • Naval fire-control systems
    • Missile-defense systems
    • Digital signal processing
    • Sensor integration
    • Combat-system test and evaluation
  • Working knowledge of radar fundamentals, including waveform processing, detection, tracking, clutter, electronic beam steering, signal-to-noise considerations, and measurement accuracy.
  • Ability to analyze complex technical problems and communicate conclusions clearly to engineering and program stakeholders.
  • Experience producing professional technical reports, analyses, presentations, or test documentation.
  • U.S. citizenship required; at this time, P17 Solutions cannot provide sponsorship.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in a relevant technical discipline.
  • Direct experience with AN/SPY-1, AN/SPY-6, AN/SPY-7, Mk 99 FCS, AN/SPG-62, Standard Missile, or another Aegis element.
  • Experience with phased-array radar, including PESA or AESA architectures.
  • Knowledge of Aegis command-and-decision, weapon-control, fire-control, or track-management functions.
  • Experience analyzing radar or combat-system data from laboratory, developmental, operational, or fleet test events.
  • Familiarity with integrated air and missile defense, ballistic-missile defense, anti-air warfare, or naval surface warfare.
  • Experience with MATLAB, Python, C++, or comparable analytical and modeling tools.
  • Familiarity with digital signal-processing techniques, algorithm development, statistical analysis, or data visualization.
  • Experience with requirements analysis, interface-control documentation, verification and validation, or model-based systems engineering.
  • Experience supporting NAVSEA, the Missile Defense Agency, a Naval Warfare Center, or another DoD engineering organization.
  • Active Secret or Top Secret clearance, as applicable to the assigned work.
