Position Summary
The radiologic technologist obtains radiographs of various parts of the body for assessment, diagnosis, or staging of disease or injuries. Assists with fluoroscopic examinations and invasive procedures while ensuring sterile technique under direct supervision of the physician. Assumes responsibility for the protection of themselves, the patient, and others by adhering to prescribed safety standards (ALARA) outlining the use of ionizing radiation.
Education
- Associate of Science - Preferred
- Experience: 1 Year radiologic technology - Preferred
License & Certification
- ARRT registry eligible. Must obtain AART registry within one year of hire.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) - Required
Core Job Functions
- Accurately enters procedural documentation and patient charges per department guidelines.
- Identifies areas of concern in patient history or on imaging and communicates to radiologist for proper action.
- Completes required documentation in department's PACS.
- Enters and verifies orders from Physician offices, ensuring the appropriate diagnosis is on orders.
- Places/scans orders in computer system for Imaging.
- Knows JC, OSHA, and ACR guidelines concerning the care of the patient, demonstrating knowledge of proper aseptic technique, Universal Precautions, Time/Out, Read back/Verify, and ALARA.
- Demonstrates knowledge of patients' rights and use of required patient identification.
- Provides excellent patient care as related to contrast administration policy, complying with use of PYXIS for medication access and verification.
- Routine cleaning and maintenance of equipment is performed in accordance with manufacturer recommendations and department policy. Work orders involving equipment are entered promptly into the system.
- Staff education regarding care and operation of equipment is conducted annually and as needed.
- Maintains national certification/registry. Competent in the use of all departmental equipment and effective performance of all procedures.
- Maintains and works safely with equipment. Reports any issues with equipment to management for correction or repair.
- Uses Safe Patient Handling system appropriately.
