About the Role

The Nuclear Medicine Technologist, under general supervision of a Radiologist, performs nuclear medicine procedures on ambulatory and hospital patients as requested by a physician or other licensed provider for the diagnosis of disease and injury in accordance with established protocols.

Responsibilities

  • Performs high-quality nuclear medicine procedures according to exam protocol in a timely manner.
  • Maintains production and quality of imaging procedures by following established standards and procedures.
  • Utilizes AIDET when communicating with patients to identify service requirements, ensure the correct exam is performed, and establish rapport.
  • Instructs and communicates with patients and their families regarding the test to be performed and assesses the patient's ability to tolerate the exam.
  • Prepares patients and areas for procedures by positioning patients, adjusting immobilization devices, moving equipment, and setting exposure factors.
  • Protects patients and employees by adhering to safety requirements, infection-control policies, drug and radiation protocols, and techniques.
  • Uses proper sterile techniques for invasive multimodality procedures and maintains hand hygiene requirements.
  • Maintains equipment and work areas to meet quality and cleanliness standards; works with engineers and physicists to ensure optimal operational capabilities.
  • Reports issues to management or appropriate departments and assists in maintaining supplies inventory.
  • Screens individuals to ensure safety before they enter the department according to approved policies and procedures.
  • Obtains, verifies, and maintains relevant documentation such as requisitions, patient history, pregnancy status, consent forms, and policies.
  • Maintains medical imaging records in the appropriate system according to department policies and standards for timely interpretation.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited radiologic technology program.
  • Certified ARRT (R) and Medical Radiologic Technologist (MRT).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or obtained within 30 days of hire or transfer.

  • Able to effectively administer first aid and use an emergency cart.
  • Able to ensure customer satisfaction by limiting wait times, providing courteous service, and reviewing patient satisfaction scores.
  • Demonstrates and maintains current knowledge and skills appropriate for newborn, pediatric, young adult, adult, and geriatric care.
  • Able to serve as a preceptor by providing quality training to new team members and on new services.
  • Able to take call, if required.
