About the Role
The Nuclear Medicine Technologist performs nuclear medicine procedures on ambulatory and hospital patients as requested by a physician or other licensed provider for the diagnosis of disease and injury, under general supervision of a Radiologist.
Responsibilities
- Performs high-quality nuclear medicine procedures according to exam protocol in a timely manner.
- Maintains production and quality of imaging procedures by following established standards and procedures.
- Uses AIDET (Acknowledge, Introduce, Duration, Explanation, Thank You) when communicating with patients to identify service requirements, ensure correct exams, and establish rapport.
- Instructs and communicates with patients and their families regarding the test to be performed and assesses the patient's ability to tolerate the exam.
- Prepares patients and procedure areas by positioning patients, adjusting immobilization devices, moving equipment, and setting exposure factors.
- Protects patients and employees by adhering to safety requirements, infection-control policies, drug and radiation protocols, and techniques.
- Uses proper sterile techniques for invasive multimodality procedures and maintains hand hygiene requirements.
- Maintains equipment and work areas to meet quality and cleanliness standards; works with engineers and physicists for optimal equipment operation.
- Reports equipment issues to management or appropriate departments and assists in maintaining supplies inventory.
- Screens individuals entering the department for safety according to approved policies and procedures.
- Obtains, verifies, and maintains relevant documentation such as requisitions, patient history, pregnancy status, consent forms, and policies.
- Maintains medical imaging records in the appropriate system according to department policies and ensures timely interpretation.
Requirements
- Graduate of an accredited Radiologic Technologist program.
- Certified ARRT (R) and Medical Radiologic Technologist (MRT).
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or obtained within 30 days of hire or transfer.

- Able to effectively administer first aid and use an emergency cart.
- Able to ensure customer satisfaction by limiting wait times, providing courteous service, and reviewing patient satisfaction scores.
- Demonstrates and maintains current knowledge and skills for care across age groups: newborn, pediatric, young adult, adult, and geriatric.
- Able to serve as a preceptor by providing quality training to new team members and on new services.
- Able to take call, if required.
