R&D- Technologist I
About the role
The R&D Technologist will work extensively in the Heavy Equipment market segment supporting Powder coating technologies. In this role, the associate will conduct experiments, record results, gain basic knowledge of raw materials and powder coating technologies, use lab equipment to prepare powder samples, and perform various other activities related to developing powder coatings. The position involves access to confidential and proprietary information, and a review of criminal history is required to protect the business and its operations.
Responsibilities
- Communicate effectively and promptly with managers, peers, and other stakeholders, including delivering formal and informal presentations as needed.
- Hands-on development: formulating, processing, applying, curing, and testing of new powder coating products.
- Participate in support of scale-up and manufacturing of new products.
- Analyze data to identify trends, resolve customer issues, and assess information for project advancement.
- Lead projects with support from a supervisor and/or a mentor chemist, including establishing timelines and identifying resource needs.
- Gain knowledge/skills with raw materials, instrumentation, extrusion, additives, and substrates to develop superior performance coatings and perform troubleshooting.
- Provide timely and accurate data to help resolve field complaints, raw material issues, manufacturing problems, and support existing and new product development.
- Use SDS and raw materials management systems.
- Adhere to safety policies and laboratory documentation.
- May directly work with chemists or technicians to support team project goals.
Requirements
- Must be legally authorized to work in the country of employment without needing sponsorship for employment work visa status now or in the future (e.g., OPT, CPT, H1B, EB-1, etc.).
- Associate’s degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math field OR prior experience as a Sherwin-Williams Technologist.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Able to determine the difference between colors, with or without reasonable accommodation, to correctly tint paint.
- Proven project management skills.
- Computer knowledge for basic inputting, communication, and data analysis.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in powder coating research and development.
- Experience working in a laboratory environment.
- Experience in powder and/or liquid coating application.
Travel Requirements: 10%
