R&D Technologist
About the role
We are looking for an R&D Technologist for our Westbury, NY facility. In this role (under guidance from Process Specialists and Sr. Lab Technicians) you will support the R&D organization by executing lab work requests pertaining to powder processing and manufacturing.
Responsibilities
- Support the project goals and objectives of the R&D Project Engineers in preparation and processing of powders.
- Manufacture powders based on requirements and received test plans or specifications and instructions provided by senior lab personnel.
- Carry out analytical tests of powder characterization (e.g. microtrac; hall flow; sieve analysis) and report findings.
- Responsible for maintaining process equipment, machinery, tooling and ensure all laboratory activities comply with safety regulations and company policies. Promote a safe working environment.
- Assist in laboratory equipment setup and techniques.
- Execute work packages in support of Materials R&D under limited guidance.
- Operate R&D lab equipment to manufacture powders to engineering specifications as well as perform necessary quality checks.
- Maintain detailed and accurate laboratory records and reports.
Qualifications
- Technical Certificate and 2+ years’ experience operating in a lab environment preferred.
- A basic level of understanding on the operation of various powder manufacturing equipment in the lab including but not limited to milling, spray dry, sizing/screening, sinter and powder spheroidization is preferred.
- Ability to follow verbal or written work instructions or specifications and communicate project progress. Detail-oriented with a demonstrated ability to capture process know-how.
- The R&D Lab Technician will be expected to operate the equipment and record information through guidance and supervision of senior lab personnel.
- Able to communicate directly to Process Specialists, Lab Supervisor as well as Engineers.
- Able to troubleshoot equipment malfunctions.

Pay
Our commitment is your success! Oerlikon is required by law to include a reasonable estimate of the current compensation range for this position, which is $60,000 to $85,000 per year. Some positions within Oerlikon may also offer eligibility to participate in a discretionary incentive program. The salary of the finalist(s) selected for the role will be based on a variety of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, internal equity, job location, work experience, education, training, certifications, licenses, etc. Therefore, as compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each individual, it is likely that not all applicants will be hired at the highest end of the listed compensation range. Our total compensation package goes beyond base compensation and it will include a competitive benefits package starting with 2 weeks paid time off accrued on a monthly basis, 12 holidays, 48 hours personal/sick time (exception for NY where we follow State law,) medical, dental, vision, 401K, holidays, pet insurance and tuition reimbursement all effective day one of hire.
