Location: Plymouth, Minnesota – fully onsite with local travel to additional worksites in Minnetonka and St. Paul. Nonexempt; overtime pay at 1.5× regular rate for hours over 40 per week.

About the role

Viltis is seeking an R&D Technician II to support laboratory testing, product development, and characterization activities for innovative medical technologies. This hands-on position will work closely with technicians, engineers, and scientists to execute experimental studies and generate accurate, reliable, and well-documented scientific data.

Responsibilities

  • Perform hands-on laboratory testing and experimental studies in support of research and product development activities.
  • Support in vitro preclinical testing, device characterization, verification testing, and process development.
  • Prepare test samples, materials, laboratory equipment, and experimental setups.
  • Execute test protocols, study plans, written procedures, and standard operating procedures.
  • Operate, maintain, and assist with troubleshooting laboratory and test equipment.
  • Collect, organize, and document experimental data with a high degree of accuracy, precision, and repeatability.
  • Review and analyze test results to identify trends, observations, anomalies, and potential issues.
  • Prepare technical reports, study documentation, protocols, summaries, and other project records.
  • Maintain accurate laboratory records in accordance with established quality and documentation requirements.
  • Support the development and improvement of laboratory methods and testing processes.
  • Maintain laboratory organization, cleanliness, inventory, and equipment readiness.
  • Communicate experimental findings and project updates to engineers, scientists, technicians, and other cross-functional team members.
  • Travel locally to worksites in Plymouth, Minnetonka, and St. Paul as needed.
  • Contribute to a positive, collaborative, and productive laboratory environment.

Requirements

  • One to four years of experience in a laboratory, R&D, product testing, medical device, biotechnology, manufacturing, or related technical environment; or a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
  • Hands-on experience performing laboratory testing or executing experimental procedures.
  • Experience collecting, documenting, and organizing experimental data.
  • Ability to operate laboratory or test equipment and follow established procedures, protocols, and SOPs.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate, reproducible, and well-documented results.
  • Strong analytical and critical-thinking skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and basic data analysis.
  • Strong written communication, documentation, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to learn new laboratory techniques, methods, equipment, and technologies quickly.
  • Ability to work independently on routine assignments while also collaborating effectively within a team.
  • Ability to work fully onsite and travel locally between designated Minnesota worksites.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate’s or bachelor’s degree, technical certification, or equivalent hands-on experience in Engineering, Biomedical Sciences, Biology, Chemistry, or a related technical field.
  • Experience supporting in vitro or preclinical laboratory testing.
  • Experience working in a regulated laboratory, medical device, biotechnology, or quality-controlled environment.
  • Experience with device characterization, verification testing, or product development activities.
  • Experience analyzing experimental data and preparing technical reports, study plans, protocols, or other controlled documentation.
  • Experience troubleshooting laboratory or test equipment.
