R&D- Technician
About the role
This position supports the research and development of products in the Paint Stores and Consumer Brands Groups within the Building Materials Lab, with a primary focus on Sherwin-Williams and White Lightning Branded Caulks and Geocel Sealants. Additional support includes Uniflex and KoolSeal Roof coatings and Loxon, H&C, and Valspar concrete and masonry coatings. The role involves routine experiments, recording results, and demonstrating basic knowledge of raw materials and lab equipment. This is an on-site position located at Sherwin-Williams Morikis Global Technology Center in Brecksville, OH, with 10% travel required.
Responsibilities
- Lab Support/Product Development:
- Conduct routine lab testing, including scale-ups, performance testing, and heat-age stability to support reformulation, development, maintenance, enhancement, and assessment of products.
- Execute experiments, competitive benchmarking, compare new to old products, perform basic caulk and sealant processes, match target colors, and participate in the design of experiments.
- Follow standard internal Institutional Test Methods, Institutional Calibration Methods, and ASTM International standards for Caulks, Sealants, and Adhesives.
- Communication:
- Establish timelines for assignments based on priorities with supervisor assistance.
- Provide project updates to supervisor and communicate effectively within a primary network of contacts.
- Write basic reports, outline procedures, input results, and maintain accurate project documentation.
- Communicate detailed ideas concisely through written communication within the department.
- Safety:
- Comply with all safety and security regulations.
- Demonstrate knowledge and safe use of chemicals, raw materials, substrates, and instruments.
- Operate moderately complex lab instruments proficiently.
- Maintain a clean work area and follow chemical hygiene plans and safe laboratory practices.
- Operations Support:
- Support operations through raw material evaluation, quality investigations, continuous improvement projects, and regulatory compliance.
Requirements
- Must be legally authorized to work in the country of employment without needing current or future sponsorship for an employment work visa or permanent residence status.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Must have a High School Diploma.
- Minimum of 6 months experience in a lab setting.
