The R&D Mechanical Engineer performs advanced mechanical design and documentation work with minimal supervision. This role is responsible for independently developing detailed designs, ensuring technical accuracy, and supporting project execution through collaboration with cross-functional teams and production.
Design & Engineering
- Conceptualize, model, and create parts and assemblies in SolidWorks for various projects
- Create and revise fully detailed engineering drawings in compliance with departmental standards
- Create and validate Bills of Materials (BOMs) for fabrication and production
- Ensure design documentation and changes are accurately processed through the Engineering Change (EC) system
- Maintain compliance with drafting standards and departmental procedures
Technical Support
- Check engineering drawings for completeness, accuracy, and manufacturability
- Analyze and respond to technical issues raised by production or customers
- Provide direction to design team members working on assigned projects
- Support prototype and initial build activities as required
Collaboration & Communication
- Coordinate design work with other departments to ensure alignment with project objectives
- Communicate project status, design intent, and technical information effectively to cross-functional teams
- Performs additional duties as assigned
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or in an engineering-related field, along with at least 3 to 7 years of using CAD software (preferably SolidWorks)
- At least 3 to 7 years electro-mechanical engineering work experience in a production or manufacturing environment
- Equivalent work experience of at least 7 years may also be considered
Required Knowledge & Skills
- Knowledge of SolidWorks for advanced part modeling, assemblies, and detailed engineering drawings
- Solid knowledge of electro-mechanical switchgear
- Solid knowledge of sheet metal design
- Knowledge of manufacturing methods, materials, and design-for-manufacturability principles
- Skilled in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, etc)
- Ability to operate independently and manage multiple complex projects simultaneously
- Ability to communicate technical information clearly across engineering, production, and leadership teams
- Ability to maintain accuracy, organization, and attention to detail under tight deadlines
