R&D- Chemist II (Wood)

About the role

The Chemist applies knowledge of chemicals, raw materials, substrates, and analytical instruments to deliver accurate, timely, and effective solutions. This role partners closely with Manufacturing, Quality, Marketing, Commercialization, and Management teams to ensure products meet performance expectations, regulatory requirements, and customer needs. The position involves access to confidential and proprietary information, and a review of criminal history is required as part of the hiring process.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to the assessment, development, reformulation, quality, maintenance, and enhancement of products through planning, executing, and analysis of experiments with clear and accurate results.
• Accountable for solving technical problems related to products or processes.
• Learn and retain significant knowledge of chemicals, raw materials, substrates, and instruments.
• Complete individual work on simple projects with minimal direction.
• Provide timely and accurate solutions to company problems of simple to moderate complexity and develop methods of minimal complexity as an individual contributor.
• Develop towards “expert/trainer” status in at least one broad area or a related specialized area.
• Adhere to company safety guidelines at all times.
• Collaborate with others in the laboratory to understand formulation and processes.
• Complete scale-up documents for new or modified formulations.
• Test products to industry specifications and write professional reports for the field.

Requirements

• Must be legally authorized to work in the country of employment without needing sponsorship for employment work visa status now or in the future (e.g., OPT, CPT, H1B, EB-1, etc.).
• Bachelor’s degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math field.
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• 3 years of coatings formulation and application experience.
• Computer knowledge and data analysis skills.
• Excellent math knowledge.

Preferred Qualifications

• Degree in Polymers and Coatings.
• Wood coating experience.
• Formulation knowledge of solvent-borne, waterborne, UV/LED-UV, and EB-cured coating systems.

Travel Requirements: 10%

This position is not eligible for sponsorship for work authorization now or in the future, including conversion to an H-1B visa. The successful candidate will be required to sign an Employee Restrictive Covenant Agreement where permitted by law.

Pay

Compensation decisions are dependent on factors such as skill sets, experience, training, licensure, certifications, and business needs. The wage range for this role takes into account these considerations and has not been adjusted for geographic differentials.
