R&D- Chemist I

About the role

This position is accountable for contributing to the execution of projects and/or the solution of problems with minimal to moderate complexity. Primary responsibilities include supporting/leading projects in the areas of service requests, quality support for current product lines, continuous improvement initiatives, technology transfers, raw-material support, and other control-chemist activities. You will collaborate with the development team to support the development and commercialization of new technologies in the United States and Canada.

Duties include contact with other employees and access to confidential and proprietary information. A review of criminal history is required to protect the business, its operations, reputation, and the safety of staff and business relationships.

Responsibilities

• Designs and executes experiments, performs basic test methods, and analyzes results.
• Maintains accurate and detailed documentation of lab work, project documentation, and provides written project updates.
• Communicates within the department and with a primary network of contacts.
• Functions under supervision, establishing own timelines with minimal changes by the supervisor.
• Contributes solutions to moderately complex projects.
• Communicates detailed ideas concisely through written technical reports.
• Adheres to quality standards in accordance with the Global Business Management System.
• Complies with and displays knowledge of all safety and security regulations; maintains a clean work area.
• Travels for technical conferences and product commercialization support (10% travel required).
• Provides outside customer service.
• Trains or mentors new technicians.
• Adheres to company safety standards at all times.
• Performs additional duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Must be legally authorized to work in the country of employment without needing sponsorship for employment work visa status now or in the future (e.g., OPT, CPT, H1B, EB-1, etc.).
• Bachelor’s degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math field.
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• 1 year of coatings experience with a focus on epoxy, urethane, color, or raw materials.
• Familiarity with application and troubleshooting of industrial coatings.
• Practical understanding of spectral measurement data.
• Computer knowledge for basic inputting, communication, and data analysis.
• Math knowledge and analytical chemistry skills, with the ability to extend them beyond the realm of coatings.
• Proven problem-solving and decision-making ability.

Preferred Qualifications

• 1 year of Protective & Marine coatings experience.
• Experience with solvent-borne and water-borne epoxy and urethane chemistries.
• Proficiency in statistics and data analysis.
• Experience with Design of Experiment (DoE).

This position is not eligible for sponsorship for work authorization now or in the future, including conversion to an H-1B visa. The successful candidate will be required to sign an Employee Restrictive Covenant Agreement where permitted by law. This position is eligible for a bonus based on performance and subject to the terms of the Company’s applicable plans.
