R&D- Associate Chemist - Color Science
Responsibilities
- Work closely with a mentor chemist developing, reformulating, maintaining and enhancing products through planning, executing and analysis of experiments with clear and accurate results.
- Display a basic working knowledge of the use of chemicals, raw materials, substrate preparation and use instruments commonly found in a lab environment.
- Input data, data analysis and technical documentation daily into lab books or a database.
- Function under substantial supervision, but may lead individual or group projects.
- Train other employees in formulating guidelines and best practices.
- Utilize advanced technologies to develop products that demonstrate improvements and differences that consumers can perceive and desire.
- Perform basic paint making processes, meet manufacturers' specifications.
- Perform basic coating formulations, applications and physical/performance testing methods.
- Review lab technician color matches and approve final composition.
- Provide customers accurate product information based on incoming requests.
- Support laboratory project prioritization and provide intermediate level responses to customers.
- Provide timely and accurate data to help resolve field complaints, raw material issues, manufacturing problems, and support existing and new product development.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Math field.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Computer knowledge for basic inputting, communication, and data analysis.
- Experience working with MS Office.
- 1 year industrial coatings Chemist lab experience or a combination of academic lab and/or internships/co-op experience.
- Strong color matching skills in solid shade and effect coatings.
About the role
The Associate Chemist position in our Coil Coatings division is responsible for a variety of exciting activities related to developing new technologies and new platforms in our high performance coatings.

Compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case and will impact where actual compensation may fall within the stated wage range.
