About the role

Performs complex mechanical duties and a variety of electrical trade functions in the installation, maintenance, repair, and/or distribution of electrical energy in a manufacturing environment. Installs, maintains, and replaces electronic programmable controllers.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot PLCs (Programmable Logic Controller) using handheld device or laptop.
  • Design and redesign programs and software (PLCs, operator panels, etc.).
  • Format hard drives and install to computers (Computer Setup) and PC applications.
  • Install, maintain, or repair equipment for the generation, distribution, or utilization of electrical energy.
  • Locate and diagnose trouble in electrical systems or equipment working from blueprints, drawings, layouts, or other specifications.
  • Perform standard computations related to load requirements of wiring and/or electrical equipment.
  • Apply knowledge of serial port communication systems, VFDs (Variable Frequency Drives), and process control instrumentation devices (thermocouples, pressure switches, etc.).
  • Apply knowledge of servomotors and drive units.
  • Continuously review respective area for ideas that drive productivity and reduce costs; professionally present solutions for improvement.
  • Plan, submit, and execute process improvements.
  • Use a variety of electrician’s tools including measuring and testing instruments.
  • Lead projects and complete them successfully, returning equipment to production safely and efficiently.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work area.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent experience.
  • Knowledge of electrical code.
  • Associate degree in industrial electronics preferred.
  • 4 or more years of industrial maintenance experience and 2 years of industrial electrical experience.
  • Formal PLC training preferred.
  • Basic computer knowledge (Microsoft Office).
  • Ability to read blueprints.
  • Ability to troubleshoot electrical systems and PLCs.
  • Ability to score 80% or better on the Industrial Maintenance exam.
  • Ability to read and understand procedures in English.
  • Ability to test motors and electrical circuits using a voltmeter and amp meter.
  • In-depth knowledge of LGV equipment and operation.

Work Environment

  • Regularly required to stand, use hands, and reach with hands and arms.
  • Required to walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • May be required to sit, climb, or balance.
  • May lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities include close vision, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts.
  • Occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles.
  • May be exposed to a wide range of temperatures.
  • Noise level is usually loud.
