We are seeking a Fabrication R&D Scientist to join the Amazon Center for Quantum Computing in Pasadena, CA. You will contribute to Amazon’s mission of delivering cloud quantum computing services by developing next-generation quantum processors in a multi-disciplinary team of scientists, hardware, and software engineers.

About the role

As a Fab R&D Scientist, you will work on novel approaches in fabricating and packaging superconducting quantum processors. You will develop and optimize processes inside and outside the cleanroom, analyze data, and drive innovation in quantum computing technologies. Strong collaboration within a team environment is essential.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and optimize processes to fabricate high-coherence superconducting qubits.
  • Create advanced 3D interconnect and routing technologies for integrating superconducting quantum technologies.
  • Analyze inline metrology and electrical test data.
  • Develop and maintain integration documentation, design rules, and standard operating procedures.
  • Provide feedback to project leads to continuously improve processes.
  • Stay updated with the latest advancements in process integration and apply knowledge to drive innovation.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to junior colleagues, fostering a collaborative work environment.
  • Plan experiments, analyze data, and conceive future innovations both inside and outside the cleanroom.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or above in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, material science, physics, or an equivalent field.
  • Experience in fabricating superconducting quantum circuits and/or packaging components.
  • Demonstrated background in scientific and engineering principles, with strong data analysis and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks/projects and work independently or within a team of engineers, scientists, and technicians.
  • Highly motivated and curious, with a bias for action and excellent communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with programming languages such as Python, Java, or C++.

Export Control Requirement

Due to applicable export control laws, candidates must be a U.S. citizen, national, permanent resident (Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum, or be able to obtain a U.S. export license.

Pay

The base salary range for this position is $125,500.00 - $169,800.00 USD annually. Your compensation package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs), with final compensation determined by experience, qualifications, and location.
