Quantum Fab R&D Scientist, Amazon Center for Quantum Computing
We are seeking a Fabrication R&D Scientist to join the Amazon Center for Quantum Computing in Pasadena, CA. This role will contribute to Amazon’s mission of delivering cloud quantum computing services globally by advancing next-generation quantum processors.
About the role
You will work within a multi-disciplinary team of scientists, hardware, and software engineers at the forefront of quantum computing. Your role will involve solving complex problems related to the development of quantum processors, both inside and outside the cleanroom environment.
Responsibilities
- Develop and optimize processes to fabricate high-coherence superconducting qubits.
- Advance 3D interconnect and routing technologies for integrating superconducting quantum technologies.
- Analyze inline metrology and electrical test data to drive process improvements.
- Develop and maintain integration documentation, design rules, and standard operating procedures.
- Collaborate with project leads to provide feedback that enhances process efficiency and innovation.
- Stay updated with the latest advancements in process integration and apply this knowledge to improve fabrication techniques.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior colleagues, fostering a collaborative work environment.
- Work independently or collaboratively to develop novel micro-/nano-fabrication techniques for quantum computing.
- Plan experiments, analyze data, and conceive future innovations outside the cleanroom.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree or above in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, material science, physics, or an equivalent field.
- Experience in fabricating superconducting quantum circuits and/or packaging components.
- Strong background in scientific and engineering principles, with excellent data analysis and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks/projects and work effectively within a team of engineers, scientists, and technicians of varying skill levels.
- Highly motivated, curious, and proactive in researching and learning new technical topics as needed.
- Must be a U.S. citizen, national, permanent resident (Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted refugee/asylee, or able to obtain a U.S. export license.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with programming languages such as Python, Java, or C++.

Pay
Base salary range: $125,500 - $169,800 annually (final compensation determined by experience, qualifications, and location).
