Frontier Technology Institute (FTI), formerly The Coding School, is a non-profit organization dedicated to shaping the future workforce by making emerging tech education accessible to all. Qubit by Qubit (QxQ), FTI’s flagship initiative focused on training the future quantum workforce, is seeking a full-time Quantum Education Fellow to develop and teach quantum-related curriculum. The Quantum Education Fellow will work closely with the QxQ education team to develop new and creative ways to teach K-16 students, including introducing new assignments, leading workshops and research programs, and aiding in general curriculum development. The fellow may also collaborate with QxQ’s industry partners to help facilitate the growth of quantum technologies across the United States. Fellows should be based in the U.S. and passionate about both quantum and education. Candidates should have experience in quantum computing, physics, and Quantum Information Science (QIS) research. This is full-time, 1-year fellowship with the opportunity to extend beyond, if mutually determined. As this is a full-time position, eligible candidates must not be actively enrolled in an academic program, or must be able to work a standard 40-hour week. FTI functions like an early-stage start-up, with each team member wearing multiple hats and working in areas that they may not have prior experience in. Thus, we are looking for individuals who enjoy fast-paced, dynamic work environments where problem solving, creative thinking, and taking initiative are a must. Duties May Include But Are Not Limited To Develop and update curriculum content for a variety of Quantum education programs, including preparation/modification of slides, Colab notebooks, assignments and problem sets;Collaborate with industry and academia on developing new curriculum content or programs;Brainstorming new and different ways to creatively teach students QIS concepts;Teach students introductory or intermediate QIS educational material, including K-12 students or educators, university students, or members of the workforce;Serve as the head Teaching Assistant (TA) for a program, in which the Fellow may interview prospective TAs, manage the TAs, go over lab content with the TAs, and hold debriefing sessions;Lead the QIS workshop program, in which QxQ provides free virtual, 1-2 hour workshops to K-12 schools;Serve as the lead instructor for research programs, camps, and workshops, which may involve traveling for in-person programming, such as summer camps. Required Skills / Experience Required: Bachelor’s degree with substantial coursework in Quantum Information Sciences (QIS), or equivalent practical experience in QIS with a QIS focused company;Strongly preferred: PhD or post-doctoral candidate in quantum or Quantum Information Sciences (QIS);Required: Minimum of 1 year of teaching experience (does not need to be QIS-related), preferably among a range of student ages;Preferred: Experience with curriculum development, including slide creation or modification, development of engaging instructional exercises, etc.Ability to multitask, meet deadlines and perform in a fast-paced environment.Ability to teach across multiple learning mediums, including in-person, hybrid, and virtual learning environments;Preferred: Past research publications on applications of quantum computers (e.g., quantum chemistry, optimization); quantum algorithms; quantum mechanics; or a related field.
