Quantum Software Developer Fellow
This one-year, full-time contractual fellowship supports the development of quantum computing applications for power grid optimization. Ideal for individuals with a strong foundation in application development and a passion for emerging quantum technologies, the fellow will engage in a structured curriculum to learn quantum algorithms and apply this knowledge to real-world energy-sector challenges using an IonQ quantum computer.
Responsibilities
- Participate in a structured curriculum focused on quantum computing and quantum algorithm programming.
- Learn and apply quantum software development tools and languages to build prototype applications.
- Collaborate with internal teams to identify and define use cases for quantum computing in power grid operations.
- Develop and test quantum algorithms and applications that address real-world energy challenges.
- Document learning progress, technical findings, and application outcomes.
- Present project results and insights to audiences of all levels.
- Stay current with advancements in quantum computing and related technologies.
Requirements
- Graduate degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, Quantum Information Science, or other closely related field.
- Experience in application development using modern programming languages.
- College-level knowledge in:
- Operations with complex numbers
- Basic linear algebra: vectors, matrices, and their properties
- Basic algorithm construction and computational complexity
- Machine learning
- Python programming language
- US citizenship is required.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills and interpersonal skills.
- A motivated self-starter with the ability to work independently and in a multidisciplinary, collaborative team.
- Ability to adapt to new technologies and a fast-paced learning environment.
- Possess and maintain a current, valid driver’s license in the state of residence and demonstrate safe and responsible operation of motor vehicles. Must be insurable under the company’s insurance policy.
Experience in high-performance computing and quantum computing software development is preferred but not required. Candidates with industry experience in software development or quantum technologies are encouraged to apply.
This role is essential to support critical infrastructure and may require working onsite or in the field to maintain electric and communications services.
