About the role

The Amazon Web Services (AWS) Center for Quantum Computing in Pasadena, CA, is looking to hire an Applied Scientist on the Device Team, focused on integration R&D for superconducting quantum processors.

Responsibilities

  • Work at the unit cell level to integrate and evaluate new fabrication process modules and device design changes for superconducting quantum processors.
  • Design and execute experiments to assess performance impacts, investigate unexpected results through rigorous analysis and follow-on experiments, and leverage electromagnetic and circuit-level simulations to interpret findings and connect observations to underlying physical mechanisms.
  • Coordinate with production and cross-functional teams on engineering lots, short-loop experiments, and prototyping runs to build the scientific foundation for next-generation processor integration at CQC.

Requirements

  • Experience in patents or publications at top-tier peer-reviewed conferences or journals.
  • Experience programming in Java, C++, Python or related language.
  • Master's degree or above in engineering, physics, or equivalent.
  • Familiarity with cryogenic systems and low-temperature measurement environments.
  • 2+ years of hands-on experience with superconducting quantum devices (resonators, transmons, or related circuits).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience using Unix/Linux.
  • Experience in professional software development.
  • Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams.
  • Experience with flip-chip or 3D integrated superconducting devices.
  • Familiarity with tantalum or other refractory metal-based superconducting circuits.
  • Experience with loss characterization and SPR analysis in CPW or lumped element resonator geometries.
  • Knowledge of Josephson junction engineering including oxidation control, underjunction processing, and junction aging.
  • Experience with cat qubit or bosonic qubit architectures.
  • Track record of driving R&D from concept through hardware demonstration.
