Quantitative Analyst
About the Role
The Quantitative Analyst will be part of the broader quantitative team supporting Invesco Fixed Income, focusing on municipal strategies. This role involves working closely with portfolio managers and credit researchers to address market, portfolio, and security-level questions. The analyst will also collaborate with quantitative, technology, and data teams to develop reliable data and reusable analytical tools.
Responsibilities
- Generate and evaluate quantitative investment ideas related to municipal relative value, portfolio positioning, performance drivers, and market opportunities.
- Measure portfolio exposures on an absolute and benchmark-relative basis, including interest-rate, yield-curve, spread, credit, liquidity, and optionality risks.
- Develop scenario and sensitivity analyses to assess how market changes could affect performance, volatility, distributions, and portfolio positioning.
- Investigate differences between expected and realized performance, distinguishing market and economic drivers from data or model issues, and communicate findings to portfolio managers and credit researchers.
- Evaluate leverage and funding risks, including tender option bond and variable-rate municipal term preferred exposures and their implications for total return, liquidity, and distributions.
- Manage municipal data end-to-end, including acquisition, definitions, transformations, timing, lineage, quality controls, reconciliation, and availability across systems such as Perform and Aladdin.
- Build and maintain analytical tools and automated workflows for holdings, transactions, pricing, benchmarks, risk, and performance while reducing routine manual processing.
- Partner with investment, quantitative, technology, and data colleagues to test new ideas, implement useful analytics, and contribute reusable data, methods, and code to the broader platform.
Requirements
- Experience applying quantitative analysis to fixed-income markets, relative value, portfolio risk, performance attribution, or portfolio construction.
- Knowledge of municipal securities, market conventions, portfolio structures, benchmarks, and sources of risk, or relevant fixed-income experience and a demonstrated ability to develop new market expertise.
- Demonstrated ability to formulate investment or analytical questions and build practical tools, models, or applications to evaluate them.
- Strong hands-on Python and SQL skills, including experience working with complex datasets and automating analytical workflows.
- Experience investigating data from multiple systems, reconciling inconsistencies, establishing data-quality controls, and developing reliable analytical datasets.
- Familiarity with modern development practices and platforms such as Git or GitHub, cloud infrastructure, Snowflake, Databricks, or comparable technologies.
- Experience using AI-assisted research or development tools to explore ideas, develop code, test analytical approaches, or improve productivity.
