About the role
Responsible for assuring all products produced at a 300-employee poultry processing facility are safe and compliant with regulatory and customer requirements. Works to prevent potential food safety and quality incidents, and promotes food safety and GMP awareness.
Reports to the quality supervisor with a primary 4-day work week schedule (Tuesday–Friday) on day shift, with flexibility to work early shifts (3am & 5am), overtime (Mondays), and weekends as needed.
Responsibilities
- Ensures all products are produced safely and in compliance with GMPs, SSOPs, HACCP, USDA, and customer requirements.
- Provides input and helps enforce food safety procedures and best practices.
- Performs checks and tests throughout the poultry processing facility (incoming through shipment).
- Supports training for GMPs, HACCP, SSOPs, and USDA regulation compliance for employees.
- Audits work practices, environment, and procedures for food safety and regulatory compliance.
- Works with operations and partners with USDA to meet state and federal regulations and promote a safe work environment.
- Cross-trains and covers duties for 1st and 2nd processing and the quality lab.
- Performs and accurately documents all required lab tests.
- Demonstrates analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Performs other related duties as necessary or assigned.
Requirements
- Associate’s degree in a technical field (preferred but not required).
- Minimum of 2 years of work experience in food processing or a related field.
- Quality technician experience in food processing (preferred but not required).
Skills & Attributes
- Quality-related experience in an industrial environment.
- Working knowledge of quality systems.
- Solid understanding of food safety regulations.
- Detail-oriented; able to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Concise communication and interpersonal skills; able to work with various levels of the organization.
- Bilingual communicator (a plus).
Physical Requirements
- Lift and move up to 40 lbs.; occasionally 50 lbs.
- Stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb, and stoop up to 10 hours per shift performing repetitive motions.
- Work safely in hot, cold, and wet environments with varying temperatures (e.g., 35–40°F / 100°F).
- Exercise strong hand-eye coordination in handling whole and parts of birds.
