Quality Technician

About the role

Tests and inspects products at various stages of the production process and compiles and evaluates statistical data to determine and maintain quality and reliability of products. Responsibilities

• Level 1
  • Performs visual inspections and physical tests utilizing equipment in the Lab.
  • Tests products for qualities such as dimensions, performance, or chemical characteristics.
  • Records and evaluates test data and writes reports.
  • Recommends modifications of existing quality or production standards to achieve optimum quality within limits of equipment capability.
  • Enters data into computer for analysis.
  • Prepares certificates of analysis on finished product for customers.
  • Able to use and read measuring instruments as well as operating instructions and procedure manuals.
  • Creates trial reports, inspection, and tracking.
  • Assists QA and Technical departments in their duties.
  • Takes responsibility for assigned work.
  • Demonstrates effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Supports and follows all plant Safety Rules, GMPs, and other procedural training requirements.
• Level 2
  • Able to meet all Level 1 essential duties and responsibilities.
  • Responsible for Complaint investigation process (minimum 1 per quarter).
  • Able to review, prepare, verify, submit, and approve Supplier and Customer COAs.
  • Must achieve Six Sigma Yellow Belt.
• Level 3
  • Able to meet all Level 1 and Level 2 essential duties and responsibilities.
  • Minimum 18 months as a Quality Technician.
  • Must be an On-The-Job Training Instructor (OJTI).
  • Able to accurately analyze data in Laboratory Information System (e.g., Zontec, EI3).
  • Active as a Wiki Farmer.
  • Knowledgeable in Food Safety standards.
  • Actively participates in a Customer, Food Safety, or ISO Quality Audit.
  • Leads at minimum one complaint investigation per quarter.
  • Completes at minimum one corrective action per quarter.
  • Participates in at minimum one process audit per quarter.
  • Must achieve ASQ CQI.
• Level 4
  • Able to meet all Level 1, Level 2, and Level 3 essential duties and responsibilities.
  • Proficient in a Statistical Software package (e.g., JMP, SPC for Excel, Minitab).
  • Knowledgeable in Healthcare standards.
  • Able to support IQ, OQ, and PQ efforts.
  • Leads and completes at minimum one Continuous Improvement project per year.
  • Ability to fill in for Quality Supervisor or Lead.
  • Participates in a Healthcare customer or System audit.
  • Must achieve ASQ CQT.

Requirements

• High degree of self-motivation and good organizational skills.
• Two to four months of training required to prepare for this position.

Qualifications

• Education and/or Experience: Associate degree (A.A.) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school; or six months to one year of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Language Skills:
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the public.
• Mathematical Skills:
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
• Reasoning Ability:
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Physical Demands

• Regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and talk or hear.
• Frequently required to sit and reach with hands and arms.
• Occasionally required to stand, walk, climb or balance, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
• Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
• May require manual lifting not to exceed 50 lbs (refer to department-specific Job Hazard Analysis for lifting restrictions).
