About the role
Primarily responsible for testing each unit for fit, form, and function. Verifies correct manufacturing processes are adhered to, documents all final defect data, and performs in-process audits on the line as units are constructed. The inspector troubleshoots malfunctioning units, assists in repairs, and collaborates with inspectors, engineers, and quality personnel to resolve potential customer issues. Also works as a team member in the assembly area to improve line production and quality.
Responsibilities
- Perform all functional testing and troubleshooting of completed units for compliance with quality standards, including fit, form, and function, and document all assembly and test results.
- Verify work order header information such as BOM part numbers, quantities, and consuming locations, and ensure corrections are made as needed.
- Attach quality test labels, crate or box completed units, and attach shipping labels.
- Inspect assemblies, subassemblies, and processes during all phases of manufacturing, identify deviations from standards, and suggest modifications to conform to standards.
- Provide quality support using databases, drawings, procedures, and work instructions to address quality-related inquiries.
- Inspect along assembly lines to identify and correct process errors.
- Stay current with the latest engineering design requirements and verify that manufacturing changes are correctly implemented.
- Monitor preventive maintenance of quality measurement tools throughout the production area.
- Report serious and repetitive quality problems and suggest root cause solutions to supervisors.
- Identify and report general safe practices, ensure proper care and cleaning of equipment, and maintain area organization and housekeeping.
- Maintain inventory accuracy of raw materials and assist with cycle counting.
- Assist team members with operations to improve efficiency, line balance, and quality workmanship.
- Perform production assembly operations as directed by the supervisor on a temporary or permanent basis.
- Perform all other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Manufacturing experience required.
- Basic computer knowledge and navigation skills.
- Ability to use measuring equipment such as rulers, tape measures, calipers, and voltmeters.
- Ability to read and interpret documents including safety rules, operating instructions, procedure manuals, bills of material, blueprints, drawings, technical documents, and statistical charts.
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
- Clear verbal communication skills for interacting with groups, customers, suppliers, and regulatory representatives.
- Ability to calculate proportions, percentages, area, circumference, volume, and apply basic shop mathematics and statistical process control techniques.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide using units of American money, weight, volume, and distance, including fractions and decimals.
- Ability to collect and research data, use intuition and experience to complement data, and analyze information skillfully.
- Demonstrates accuracy, thoroughness, and a proactive approach to improving quality and performance.
- Adheres to safety procedures, reports unsafe conditions, and uses equipment and materials properly.
- Ability to handle frequent changes, delays, or unexpected events.
- Willingness to work overtime or weekend hours as requested by the supervisor with proper prior notice.
- Consistently punctual and reliable, ensuring work responsibilities are covered during absences.
Physical Requirements
- Frequently (one-third to two-thirds of the shift): twist, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, stand, walk, bend, reach, use hands to finger/handle/feel, and talk or hear.
- Constantly (over two-thirds of the shift): standing and walking for the entire shift, reaching with hands and arms.
- Occasionally (under one-third of the shift): sit, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs, occasionally lift and move up to 100 lbs with assistance.
- Use of pulsating, vibrating, and wrenching hand tools (air, pneumatic, etc.) for extended periods.
- Vision requirements: close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
- Exposure to loud noises, limited dust and fumes, moving mechanical parts, and variable hot and cold working environments.
- Must wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as steel-toe shoes/boots, ear, and eye protection.
- Occasional exposure to high places, fumes, airborne particles, outside weather conditions, risk of electrical shock, and vibration.
- Must be able to push/pull up to 75 lbs.
