Quality Specialist
Job Summary
The Quality Specialist will develop, support and lead site level implementation of the business quality strategies, programs, and systems.
Essential Functions
- Analyze site quality performance metrics, drive statistical analysis of products and use of supporting quality tools and processes.
- Lead site level quality meetings to communicate and drive improvements through key metrics.
- Identify and Execute improvement projects to maximize First Pass Prime and product quality performance.
- Act as interface to build and enhance relationships, services, and flow of information between the site and stakeholders with respect to the product quality.
- Provide direction on applicable material handling guidelines and quality requirements to External Manufacturing/warehouses and External Packaging Operations Plan.
- Lead product quality problem solving efforts with respect to non-conforming product, customer complaints, and un-planned events.
- Be the subject matter expert for coordinating the review and approval of special released product.
- Ensure that product returns and non-conforming product are appropriately managed to prevent unintended use.
- Support cross functional projects & teams assisting in project definition, and fundamental understanding of process critical conditions related to product quality.
- Support the business and global site personnel to introduce new products & trials as part of the product qualification process.
- Lead and participate in management of change reviews that impact product quality.
- Support and provide quality requirement guidance to plant Operating Discipline system procedures to ensure quality system requirements are satisfied (e.g. Good Manufacturing Practices, ISO 9001).
- Perform analyses (routine, non-routine, and complex), interpret, report, and document in ERP.
- Provide analytical technical/chemical expertise and guidance in the implementation and daily operation of quality assurance technology, improvement of analytical system performance, and reliability of results.
- Schedule, perform, document, and communicate analytical & calibration results according to the Sample Plan, Emergency Contingency Plans, maintenance plan, calibration and Quality Control schedules.
- Ensure quality system tools are validated throughout the global site quality architecture.
- Route analytical requests to the appropriate service provider.
- Monitor analytical systems, evaluate validity of data, apply statistics, interpret results, and take appropriate action.
- Perform first line troubleshooting of laboratory Information Technology (IT) and data handling systems.
- Provide expertise for troubleshooting and repairing analytical instruments.
- Manage raw material and products and retain samples.
- Validate, qualify, implement and verify new equipment, methods and the performance of new equipment.
- Assist in adapting and implementing laboratory IT and data handling systems to the needs of the unit.
- Anticipate analytical and product quality problems and address proactively.
- Maintain and optimize Sample Plans to meet the needs of stakeholders.
Physical & On-Site Requirements
- Regular, predictable, and punctual attendance is required.
- Must be able to operate standard office equipment, handle and organize physical files, and move between departments.
- Must be able to lift and carry office supplies, files, and packages up to 20 lbs.
- Must be able to travel locally for bank deposits, vendor visits, or meetings as required by business needs.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Engineering, or Technical discipline.
- 3-5 years (min.) of relevant work experience in the industry.
- Experience in polyolefin or plastics manufacturing related industries would be a valuable asset (Polymer production or applications of polymers for film, fiber, molding or other downstream processes).
- Applied knowledge and experience working with Quality Management System requirements such ISO9001, and ISO 17025.
- Demonstrated strong networking, interpersonal skills and professionalism to deal with all levels of management, personnel, and business representatives.
- Must have the ability to manage multiple tasks and objectives as well as take on additional tasks to meet business needs; must be able to manage a diverse workload, perceive needs of others, remain adaptable.
- Effective planning, organizing and priority-setting skills.
- Must possess strong analytical thinking skills and use formal problem-solving techniques and data analysis to determine root cause and reach solutions.
- Must be able to work independently.
- Strong computer skills including experience with SAP.
