About the role

The Employee works with the University of Maryland School of Medicine Department of Anesthesiology’s Safety, Clinical Outcomes, Research, and Effectiveness (SCORE) program to enhance safety and quality of medical services provided by the Department.

Responsibilities

  • Works closely with SCORE Patient Safety and Quality Manager and physician safety and quality leaders to evaluate opportunities for improvement.
  • Uses performance improvement methodology, tools, and techniques to facilitate clinical process improvement teams.
  • Serves as a partner with physician leadership to develop and maintain anesthesia-related quality improvement initiatives that align with Departmental goals.
  • Utilizes advanced quality improvement techniques like Lean and Six Sigma to drive anesthesia-related quality improvement initiatives.
  • Collaborates with all levels of anesthesia providers and other clinical and administrative personnel to understand and define the scope of quality improvement initiatives.
  • Collaborates with faculty leadership to identify any aspects of quality projects requiring IRB review.
  • Reviews anesthesia performance metrics, including AQI and MPOG recommendations, to identify areas for improvement.
  • Evaluates documentation and identifies potential quality of care issues based on clinical policies, procedures, and protocols.
  • Condenses complex information into a clear and precise clinical picture while working independently.
  • Reports audit or clinical findings to relevant staff or others to ensure appropriate outcomes and follow-up for improvement as needed.
  • Completes mandatory employee health, workers compensation, HR processes, and other training and requirements within the stipulated timeframe to ensure compliance with all FPI rules and regulations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing; Master’s in healthcare or related field preferred.
  • RN with current unrestricted state licensure required.
  • 2 years of perioperative nursing experience, with active participation in clinical quality improvement or patient safety work required.
  • Experience in Six Sigma/Lean Sigma Green Belt, IMPRV, Lean, or TPS preferred.

  • Strong written, verbal, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to follow and make complex decisions.
  • Computer skills: MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel - intermediate level required.
  • Access, MiniTab, SAS, SPSS, R, REDCap helpful but not required.

  • Advanced quality improvement techniques (Lean, Six Sigma).
  • Collaborative problem-solving and team leadership.
  • Interdisciplinary collaboration with physicians, nurses, and administrators.
  • Documentation evaluation and quality assurance.

Pay

The referenced base salary range represents the low and high end of University of Maryland’s Faculty Physician’s Inc. salary range for this position. Exact salary will ultimately depend on multiple factors, including the successful candidate's geographic location, skills, work experience, market conditions, internal equity, responsibility factor, and span of control, education/training, and other qualifications.
