Description

The Quality Manager will develop, implement, and maintain the quality plan that complies with ISO 9001/FSC/SFI/GMP. They will monitor the quality system processes, recommend improvements, and participate in establishing and implementing major goals and objectives.

Requirements

  • Formulates business strategies, plans, and budgets for the department and monitors its performance to ensure plant goals are achieved.
  • Maintains a positive work environment of trust, respect, and support for all internal/external customers and staff by adhering to company policies & standards.
  • Serves as a resource in all aspects of the quality system.
  • Ensures the quality system is consistent with established company goals and in accordance with ISO 9001/FSC/SFI/GMP.
  • Prepares, maintains, and reports internal and external quality records and analyses.
  • Designs, recommends, and implements quality process training programs.
  • Identifies non-conformity products or processes, investigates, analyzes customer complaints regarding quality, and assists in resolving issues.
  • Schedules and assigns internal quality audits and maintains records.
  • Maintains and fosters effective communications with customers, suppliers, outside auditors, etc., in a resourceful and professional manner.
  • Ensures and monitors supplier requirements by ISO standards.
  • Provides information to customer requests in a timely manner in conjunction with the Customer Service and Sales Team.
  • Advise the General Manager on any concerns regarding the department's performance.
  • Ensures the entire team works towards common goals and objectives.
  • Defines KPIs for the Quality Assurance Department and ensures timely follow-up and delivery with monthly reports to the General Manager.
  • Encourages team development and flexibility, coordinates work, and provides guidance and support.
  • Carry out periodic reviews on what works and doesn't work within the function and process and define solutions.
  • Review processes in the Quality function with other members of the Management Team to ensure the function is delivering what is required and expected.
  • Oversees cross-training among the team.
  • Strives for best-in-class Quality function within the industry/set the industry standard, adapting new ideas and concepts from other Quality functions in other industries.
  • Keeps up to date on new developments and fosters learning & development among the team.
  • Visits the work area frequently to ensure compliance and discusses safety issues with the team.
  • Encourages the team to report incidents, near-misses, and unsafe conditions.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in business, industrial packaging, or a related field (e.g., manufacturing industry) preferred.
  • +10 years’ experience in TQM, ISO, Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, or Process Improvement.
  • Thorough knowledge of ANSI/ISO/SFI/FSC/GMP; Quality Management Systems.
  • Excellent interpersonal & communication skills (verbal and written), dealing with individuals at all levels.
  • Proven leadership skills and ability to motivate & develop both senior and junior level staff.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (advanced Excel).
  • Self-motivated and committed individual, strong work ethic.
  • Excellent analytical skills, methodical approach, and commercial acumen.
  • Able to define problems, collect data/facts, and draw reasonable conclusions.
  • Able to interpret a variety of technical instructions (manuals, procedures, etc.) in different forms, e.g., diagrams.
  • Able to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Able to recognize non-conformity, analyze, and solve or recommend improvements.
  • Able to work with various departments (sales, operations, finance) to resolve challenges.
  • Able to drive the team to continuously improve processes and foster good working relationships.
  • Able to step back and let the direct reports handle day-to-day issues with their teams.
  • Able to build strong relationships internally and externally (e.g., key customers, etc.).
