Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Liaise with customers and coordinate with staff and internal departments to effectively meet PPAP requirements for the introduction of new products, and subsequent revisions of engineering changes.
- Direct quality staff to effectively monitor production to consistent required quality levels.
- Assist and supervise the team to correctly interpret GD&T drawings and support CMM technician to develop dimensional inspection methods.
- Monitor and assist in the dispositioning of quarantined goods, with the goal of maintaining zero inventory in these areas.
- Keeps management informed of quality product and liaison with all plant departments and customers.
- Monitor plant scrap and rework, customer rejections and returns.
- In the event of receiving a customer concern (verbal or electronic), issue a customer/concern report to the MDS team. Stop further processing and inform the area supervisor or manager responsible when becoming aware that a product or process is non-conformance.
- Ensure business system is established, implemented and maintained in accordance with the current ISO9001/IATF 16949 standards, corporate and customer specific requirements.
- Ensure compliance to all health and safety rules and housekeeping principals. Ensure substandard conditions and practices identified in plant safety audits are corrected.
- Prepare reports and key measurable indicators each month. Carry out corrective actions if necessary and report information out in a monthly management review meeting.
- Attend management report-out meetings on a weekly basis; Production and Fast Response Meetings daily.
- Head the internal audit process (QMS, Process & Product, LPA) and ensure compliance as required.
- Conduct department start-up meetings daily.
- Provide oversight and direction and delegate responsibilities to all members of the department. Manage performance: communicate job expectations and conduct employee evaluations for all department members on an end of probation basis and an annual basis.
- Coach, counsel, mentor and discipline employees with the assistance of human resources and senior management as necessary.
- Work with human resources to interview and select candidates to fill vacancies within the department.
- Determine employee development and/or training needs for department members on an annual basis. Prepare annual training plan and submit it to the human resources department.
- Complete training effectiveness evaluation forms and submit to the human resources department.
- Participate in succession planning activities including career development.
- Aid with job analysis on a yearly basis.
- Prepare departmental budget on an annual basis.
- Follow all departmental and general procedures where applicable.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the General Manager.
- Adopt, practice, and promote Kaizen principles; participate in Kaizen and GEAR activities.
- Encourage continuous improvement efforts within the department and ensure submission of individual and team GEARs to achieve one hundred percent participation.
KEY RELATIONSHIPS
- General Manager/Assistant General Manager: Provides direct supervision, assigns jobs, and also provides guidance and advice on all aspects of the job.
- APQP Department: Support all activities related to APQP and global launch of new program launches.
- Finance: Provide internal/external failure reports. The finance department will provide information to the Quality Manager to assist in the tracking of departmental cost, budget adherence, quality costs, etc.
- Human Resources Manager: Provides advice and direction on all areas of employment.
- Production Manager: The Quality Manager will support operations as required.
- Purchasing & Materials: Receive and provide information from supplier development regarding supplier capabilities and performance and assist in developing sub-contractor and supplier base.
- Supplier Representatives: The Quality Manager is responsible for all activities involving Customer Plant representation.
Basic Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree from a four-year college or university in a technical field, or six years manufacturing quality experience.
- Minimum of three years’ experience in a supervisory/management role.
- Qualifications to include technical, analytical and judgmental knowledge of current quality control methods employed by engineering and manufacturing.
- Strong background and experience in metal stamping and welding is must (Spot, MIG, etc).
- Excellent knowledge of the ISO9001 and IATF 16949 standards, including Customer Specific Requirements and AIAG core tools (PPAP, MSA, PFMEA, Control Plan, etc).
- Excellent problem solving, interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills.
- Ability to coach, counsel, discipline, mentor and motivate.
- Supervisory skills in employee development, health and safety, hiring, orientation, and performance reviews.
- Proficient in Microsoft applications, including Excel, PowerPoint, Word and customer portals (GM, Ford, Stellantis, etc).
- Willingness to solve customer problems in a timely manner including plant visits.
- Previous experience in supplier quality is an asset.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s Degree from a four year college or university in a technical field, or six years manufacturing quality experience.
- With 2 years additional experience in a Quality Supervisor or managerial position for an automotive supplier in the metal processing field is required.
- Qualifications to include technical, analytical and judgmental knowledge of current quality control methods employed by engineering and manufacturing.

- Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
