Quality Manager

About the role

The Quality Manager is responsible for leading, coordinating, and championing Quality Assurance and Process Improvement efforts at Mettler-Toledo Product Inspection in Tampa, Florida. This position requires an experienced Quality leader able to facilitate and drive change in a fast-paced environment. The role involves leveraging strong interpersonal skills to unite a small team of internal Quality professionals and employees from different disciplines to achieve overall quality objectives.

Responsibilities

• Provide strong support to the Head of Quality for strategic development and implementation of a proficient and robust Quality Management System across Product Inspection.
• Oversee Quality Assurance and Process Improvement programs for all products, value streams, and services originating from the Tampa operations.
• Collaborate with Site Management, Continuous Improvement, Production, and Engineering teams to develop and meet Quality Assurance and Process Improvement objectives.
• Lead and manage the program for initial ISO-9000 certification of the local site, including creation and maintenance of the Quality Management System required for ongoing certification.
• Serve as the primary liaison with the ISO-9000 accreditation agency, ensuring proper record-keeping and maintenance.
• Establish and maintain a "Quality Dashboard" to track product and process performance measurements against targets, delivering periodic presentations to key stakeholders.
• Manage and conduct final quality and safety inspections for all products, ensuring compliance with radiation safety tests and applicable electrical/mechanical risk assessments before shipment.
• Integrate quality tools across all departments and value streams, focusing on eliminating failures, rework, and costs while improving customer satisfaction and financial performance.
• Analyze current processes to identify weaknesses, risks, and inconsistencies in execution, implementing improvements as needed.
• Implement process quality audits based on statistical analysis from QN, GQM, COPQ, warranty repairs, and other quality metrics to drive continuous improvement.
• Maintain and analyze crucial quality indexes such as COPQ, QNZX/ZI OTD, DPU, and PFRW.
• Ensure departments use structured problem-solving methods, including 5 Why Analysis, Fishbone diagrams, Six Sigma, SPC, 8D, A3, and COPQ techniques.
• Provide leadership, mentoring, and training on Quality improvement tools across all levels of the organization.
• Develop a culture that values excellence in customer service and quality, rewarding and recognizing achievements in these areas.
• Perform root cause analysis and implement changes to continuously improve product and process quality.
• Assure effective SOPs, work instructions, work processes, tools, and systems are developed, documented, and maintained to meet quality objectives.
• Maintain and improve the calibration program, nonconforming processes, customer returns, and internal audits.
• Strongly support and implement the Sterndrive Quality Initiative to improve operations and market strategies.
• Perform other duties and tasks as assigned.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Quality, Engineering, or Manufacturing-oriented disciplines.
• At least five years of experience successfully leading Quality improvement efforts.
• Relevant experience with ISO-9000 standards and deployment of ISO-9000 systems.
• Experience with Lean, Six Sigma, 8D, and COPQ measurement systems; Green or Black Belt certification is desired.
• Formal training and demonstrated use of Quality practices, including statistical analysis, auditing, and process control.
• Knowledge of quality system methodologies such as Lean, 5 Why’s, Pareto Analysis, Six Sigma, 8-D, DFMEA, PFMEA, and PPAP.
• Working understanding of process-flow and value stream mapping.
• Strong teamwork and consensus-building skills in a team-oriented environment.
• Excellent communication skills across all levels of the organization.
• Strong people and change management skills.
• Demonstrated ability to initiate and lead significant change.
• Ability to work effectively in teams with peer managers to achieve organizational goals.
• Ability to provide technical information to vendors regarding quality failures and follow up to ensure improvements.
