About the role

As part of the talented Lowe team, the Quality Manager oversees all aspects of boat inspection, applying knowledge of quality assurance standards and procedures to drive improvements in products and customer satisfaction. This role ensures conformance to regulatory and internal product standards across all production areas, reviews reports, and collaborates with quality assurance, production, management, and engineering personnel to solve work-related problems.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee assigned areas of QA, QE, and QC processes
  • Lead and develop a team of hourly and salaried members for continuous career growth
  • Plan and adjust work priorities to meet daily, weekly, monthly goals and metrics
  • Develop formal quality inspection training requirements
  • Assure inspection/test skill and methods are executed consistently across personnel and processes
  • Analyze processes to identify and communicate improvement opportunities
  • Drive process/quality improvements using formal methodologies, Lean Manufacturing principles, and Six Sigma tools
  • Sustain product and process controls; act to correct process nonconformance
  • Analyze product warranty data to improve internal processes
  • Review/investigate dealer complaints/warranty issues to improve current control methods
  • Oversee QCIS QC data input and boat tagging process
  • Containment and verification of repairs related to finished goods inventory
  • Participate in cross-functional walkthroughs
  • Perform all other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree; relevant industry experience along with certifications may be considered in place of degree
  • Minimum five years of related work experience in QC/QA
  • Formal Six Sigma training
  • Hands-on experience at a shop floor level, working with process personnel to determine current and ideal states
  • Results-oriented with both quantifiable and qualitative focus
  • Ability to distinguish common cause from special cause to tailor problem-solving methods
  • Experience developing a pull vs. push approach for quality within an organization
  • Project leadership experience with direct reports; strong leadership, coaching, and mentoring skills
  • Ability to develop strong working relationships with stakeholders
  • Well-versed in quality methodologies with a practical approach to application
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Experience performing mathematical and basic statistical calculations and analysis, including graphical reporting
  • Ability to manage medium to large-scale projects, define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
  • Experience developing process procedures and work instructions
  • Familiarity with electronic schematics/drawings, performing inspections, and production assembly processes
  • Working knowledge of Six Sigma, Lean, and Kaizen activities
  • Ability to interpret technical matter in mathematical or diagram form
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, both verbal and written; ability to communicate cross-functionally
  • Understanding of customers’ quality/reliability requirements and product expectations
  • Solid understanding and use of computer basics, including Excel, Word, and Outlook

Preferred Qualifications

  • ASQ certifications (CQE, CSSGB, CSSBB, CMQ/OE) or ability to complete within 8 months of hire
  • 3 years of automotive or comparable regulated industry experience
  • Product compliance/liability training experience
  • Prior marine experience and/or personal knowledge of boat operation and systems
  • Training in NMMA and ABYC regulations
  • Experience with gel coat, fiberglass, and assembly

Working Conditions

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to high sound levels, welding processes, moving forklifts, elevated loads, and other shop-floor conditions.

Pay

The anticipated pay range for this position is $84,500–$123,900 annually. Actual base pay will vary depending on job-related knowledge/skills, relevant experience, business needs, and geographic location. This position is also eligible for an annual discretionary bonus.
