Quality Manager
Job Summary
The Quality Manager leads administration of quality, process, and business improvement efforts. They interact with customers and suppliers on quality and performance issues and may have direct reports to implement some aspects of the policies and procedures within the quality function.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Quality System Oversight: Maintains and enforces the facility’s Quality Management System (QMS), ensuring compliance with internal standards and regulatory requirements such as FDA food-contact regulations, GMP, and HACCP. Leads internal audits and ensures corrective actions are properly implemented and verified.
Daily Production Quality Support: Monitors quality performance on all blow mold lines, verifying that operators follow all start-up, changeover, and shutdown quality procedures. Ensures that all inspections, including hourly checks and first-article approvals, are properly documented. Responds immediately to quality concerns on the production floor and provides direction to operators and technicians.
Inspection & Testing Management: Oversees daily quality inspections, ensuring that all inspection equipment is calibrated, maintained, and functioning correctly. Maintains sampling plans and adjusts inspection frequencies based on risk or customer feedback.
Defect Reduction & Continuous Improvement: Leads root cause analyses for recurring defects. Identifies quality trends using SPC tools, control charts, and scrap reporting data. Collaborates with Maintenance and Process Technicians to resolve mold, resin, or process-related issues. Implements process improvements related to resin handling, dryer settings, parison control, cooling cycles, and mold maintenance.
Customer Focus: Manages customer complaints by conducting investigations, documenting findings, and implementing corrective actions. Prepares customer samples, retains, and certifies of compliance as required. Supports customer audits and plant visits by presenting quality data and improvement initiatives. May travel to customer locations to support quality investigations, new bottle qualifications, and build and maintain a strong business partnership.
Leadership & Training: Oversees Quality Inspectors and Technicians across all assigned shifts. Trains team members on inspection criteria, defect standards, and proper use of measurement tools. Coaches operators on recognizing defects, documenting issues, and escalating concerns appropriately. Maintains staffing levels and ensures that all 24/7 operational requirements are met.
Documentation & Reporting: Ensures the accurate and timely completion of start-up approvals, line clearance forms, non-conformance reports, and traceability records. Generates daily, weekly, and monthly quality performance reports, including scrap, downtime, and defect trends.
Non-Conformance & Disposition Control: Identifies and isolates all non-conforming products to prevent unintended use or shipment. Leads material review processes and recommends appropriate disposition such as rework, downgrade, or scrap. Collaborates with production and scheduling teams to minimize the impact of quality issues on inventory and customer orders.
Safety & Compliance: Ensures that all quality personnel comply with plant safety & GMP policies, including PPE requirements. Maintains all inspection and gauge areas in a clean, organized, and audit-ready condition. Supports investigations into quality-related safety risks, including contamination events and structural failures.
Resin, Mold & Equipment Support: Monitors resin handling practices, verifies that molds are clean, maintained, and compliant with production requirements. Supports the validation of new molds, bottle designs, process changes, and equipment upgrades. Reasonable mandatory overtime may be required due to business needs.
