Quality Inspector II - Mining Division
As a mid-level quality control professional, the Quality Inspector II performs complex inspections and verifications of materials, processes, and workmanship to ensure compliance with project specifications, drawings, codes, and industry standards. This role provides technical support to Quality Inspector I personnel and collaborates with engineers, superintendents, and subcontractors to proactively address quality concerns and implement corrective actions.
Responsibilities
- Assist with the preparation, review, and maintenance of Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs), Quality Control Plans (QCPs), and Method Statements.
- Conduct detailed inspections and verifications of incoming materials, in-process work, and final deliverables to ensure adherence to specifications, codes (e.g., AWS, AISC, ASME, ASTM, ACI), and project requirements.
- Document inspection findings accurately in project management and quality tracking systems, including generating Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) and Corrective Action Requests (CARs).
- Ensure strict adherence to safety and quality control procedures on-site.
- Mentor and provide guidance to entry-level Quality Inspectors, promoting adherence to quality procedures and company standards.
- Oversee and coordinate third-party inspections and testing services, ensuring proper documentation and adherence to standards.
- Participate in root cause analysis and recommend preventative measures for quality issues.
- Review and interpret technical drawings, work packages, and project specifications.
- Support and participate in internal and external audits.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED required; associate degree or vocational certification in construction technology, quality management, or a related field preferred.
- Minimum 3-5 years of quality inspection experience in a construction, manufacturing, or industrial setting.
- Proficiency with inspection tools (calipers, micrometers, weld gauges, etc.).
- Proficient in interpreting blueprints, isometric drawings, and technical documentation.
- Strong working knowledge of applicable codes and standards (e.g., AWS D1.1, AISC, ASME, API, ACI).
- Ability to generate and maintain detailed records, reports, and quality documentation.
- Familiarity with Quality Management Systems (QMS), including ISO 9001.
- Experience using project and document control platforms (e.g., Procore, Bluebeam, Oracle Primavera, BIM 360).
- Working knowledge of Lean, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement tools.
Preferred Certifications
- AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI)
- ASQ Certified Quality Inspector (CQI)
- ICC certifications (e.g., Structural Steel and Bolting, Reinforced Concrete)
- NDT Level I or II in MT, PT, UT, or RT (if applicable)
Physical Requirements
- Ability to wear personal protective equipment (steel-toed shoes, gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, hardhat, vest, etc.).
- May reach above shoulder heights and below the waist on a frequent basis.
- May stoop, kneel, or bend on an occasional basis.
- Must be able to use telephone, computer system, email, or other electronic devices to communicate.
- Must comply with all safety standards and procedures.
- Occasionally will climb stairs, ladders, etc.
- Required to use hands to grasp, lift, handle, carry, or feel objects on a frequent basis.
- Will interact with people frequently during a shift/work day.
- Will lift, push, or pull objects up to 50 lbs on an occasional basis.
- Will sit, stand, or walk short distances for up to the entire duration of a shift/work day.
