About the Role
The Quality Inspector ensures efficient operations and maintains quality standards for raw materials, processed products, and processing procedures across production lines. This role involves thorough inspections, documentation, and collaboration with production teams to uphold quality and optimize performance.
Responsibilities
- Performs inspections of all products methodically, identifying defects, inadequate color, damage, etc., and documents inspection results.
- Recommends improvements to the production process based on inspection findings.
- Works with production teams to resolve quality issues and ensure compliance with industry standards.
- Monitors and reduces production downtime and product waste.
- Communicates pertinent information between departments and shifts regarding equipment changes, production schedules, and issues.
- Troubleshoots quality-related defects and issues with employees.
- Manages machinery set-up, adjustment, and product inspections to ensure compliance with standards.
- Oversees final product quality and recommends modifications to existing quality or production standards.
- Completes documentation such as production sheets, pallet ticketing, and job progressions.
- Monitors and verifies quality in accordance with statistical process or other control procedures.
- Communicates quality opportunities and findings to the Quality Supervisor.
- Collaborates with Production on issues affecting production line performance.
- Maintains and follows through on lists generated by audits, inspections, or maintenance.
- Participates in Safety programs and committees, adhering to site safety policies and wearing appropriate PPE.
- Follows practices and processes to ensure safe products that comply with laws and company quality standards.
Requirements
- High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent (required).
- Associates Degree in Industrial Maintenance, Quality Technology, Maintenance, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or related field (preferred).
- Two-year technical degree or equivalent (preferred).
- 2 years’ experience in quality inspection and inspection processes (preferred).
- Experience maintaining motor controls, installations, maintenance, and repairs.
- Knowledge of quality assurance principles, methods, and processes.
- Mechanical aptitude and experience working with machines and general tooling.
- Proficiency with precision measuring instruments.
- Demonstrated quick-thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Experience handling heavy industrial equipment such as forklifts, scissor lifts, and basket trucks.
- Working knowledge of automation standard practices.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to maintain accurate, detailed records.
- Ability to work on multiple projects with tight deadlines.
- Ability to identify and execute improvement opportunities through process and system enhancements.
- Ability to work with employees from diverse cultural backgrounds.
Skills
- General knowledge of basic hardware and software, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook), Google Workspace, and web-site software.
- Mid-level SAP or Quality Management System experience (preferred).
Environmental & Physical Factors
- Works primarily in a warehouse/manufacturing facility with daily contact with other departmental personnel.
- Occasionally works in all weather conditions, extreme temperatures, around chemicals, chemical fumes/emissions, and dusty or clean environments.
- Frequently exposed to electrical and mechanical hazards.
- May work outside or in un-air-conditioned warehouses when handling surplus and scrap materials.
- Continuous use of vision, hearing, and speech.
- Frequent sitting, standing, walking, and occasional bending.
- Lifting, carrying, pulling, or pushing up to 50 lbs.
- Climbing stairs, ladders, and moving objects; requires manual dexterity and repetitive use of keyboard, computer devices, power tools, and machining equipment.
- Wears safety equipment such as earplugs, goggles, and steel-toed shoes.
Schedule
- 12-hour rotating shifts: 4 days on and 4 days off.
- Rotating shifts include night shifts.
- Schedule may vary based on plant operational needs, including long days, evenings, weekends, holidays, and overtime.
- Regular and predictable attendance is required.
