About the role
Smardt is seeking a Quality Control Inspector to validate and control product quality and related documentation throughout the manufacturing process. This role ensures that products meet Smardt Quality Standards, regulatory codes, engineering specifications, and customer requirements. The Quality Control Inspector will perform in-process, receiving, and final inspections, identify non-conformances, and collaborate cross-functionally with production, engineering, and supply chain teams to resolve quality issues. This hire will be required to travel to Montreal, Canada for approximately 4 weeks of training, provided by Smardt.
Responsibilities
- Perform in-process inspections to verify product conformance through visual inspections, dimensional checks, and measurement tests.
- Conduct receiving inspections of raw materials and components to ensure compliance with specifications and purchase requirements.
- Perform final inspections of completed assemblies and products prior to shipment.
- Verify that products comply with engineering drawings, specifications, and customer requirements.
- Review work orders, drawings, and inspection documentation for completeness and accuracy.
- Identify, document, and track non-conformances and quality deviations.
- Work cross-functionally with production, engineering, and supply chain teams to investigate and resolve quality issues.
- Support root cause analysis and corrective action processes (RCA / CAPA) to prevent recurrence.
- Assist in evaluating rework, repair, and disposition of non-conforming materials.
- Maintain and organize inspection records, quality reports, and test documentation.
- Ensure proper completion of quality documentation for projects, inspections, and corrective actions.
- Support traceability and documentation requirements in accordance with quality management system standards.
- Maintain inspection and test equipment to ensure tools are accurate, calibrated, and compliant with quality procedures.
- Assist in verifying measurement systems and inspection tools used during manufacturing.
- Support internal and external ISO quality audits, including preparation of documentation and inspection records.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance manufacturing processes and reduce defects.
- Provide feedback to production teams to improve product quality, process consistency, and manufacturing efficiency.
- Communicate inspection findings and quality concerns to production supervisors and quality leadership.
- Provide guidance to production personnel regarding quality requirements and inspection standards.
- Assist with training or guidance related to quality procedures and inspection practices.
Requirements
- 2+ years minimum experience as a Quality Inspector or in a related manufacturing quality role.
- Experience working in HVAC, mechanical equipment, or industrial manufacturing environments.
- Familiarity with ISO 9001 or similar quality management systems.
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, engineering specifications, and assembly documentation.
- Strong attention to detail and inspection accuracy.
- Knowledge of inspection tools and measurement equipment (calipers, micrometers, gauges, etc.).
- Working knowledge of MS Office and digital documentation systems.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.

Essential Functions
- Frequently lift, carry, push, and/or pull materials weighing up to 50 pounds; occasionally up to 75 pounds, with or without assistance.
- Perform repetitive movements including bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, squatting, and twisting.
- Stand and walk for extended periods, up to 8–12 hours per shift.
- Climb ladders, stairs, scaffolding, and ramps as needed.
- Reach above shoulder level and work at varying heights.
- Use hands and arms to grasp, handle, manipulate, and operate hand tools, power tools, and equipment.
- Perform repetitive hand, wrist, and arm motions along with push, pull, grab, pinch and lift arms above the head.
- Maintain balance and coordination while working on uneven surfaces.
- Work in confined or restricted spaces when required.
- Tolerate exposure to varying environmental conditions, including heat, cold, humidity, dust, noise, and outdoor weather conditions.
- Maintain sufficient visual acuity to identify hazards, read in English or Spanish labels, and operate equipment safely.
- Maintain sufficient hearing ability to receive verbal instructions and respond to safety warnings.
- Perform physically demanding tasks for sustained periods consistent with assigned duties.
