About the role
The Quality Improvement Coordinator provides project management and facilitation, clinical oversight, and support for the development, coordination, implementation, and evaluation of quality-improvement, medical-staff performance-improvement, and patient-safety initiatives. Responsibilities include organizing task forces, reviewing evidence-based literature and benchmarks, establishing indicators for monitoring and evaluating the quality and appropriateness of care, driving continuous improvement, achieving targeted goals, performing medical-record reviews, investigating occurrences and complaints, and tracking and trending medical-staff performance.
Requirements
- Active RN license
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required
- Three or more years of current experience in quality-improvement activities preferred
- Experience in a clinical area of an acute-care facility with demonstrated leadership, teaching, and QI/PI facilitation skills preferred
- Knowledge and understanding of regulatory and accreditation-agency standards preferred

About the facility
Sentara Leigh Hospital is a 274-bed acute-care facility in Norfolk, VA. The hospital completed a renovation in 2016 that added two new patient towers, an atrium, and a multi-story parking garage. It includes a dedicated Orthopedic Hospital offering a full continuum of orthopedic care, from preoperative services through surgery, rehabilitation, and home care. Sentara Leigh is a recognized accredited Primary Stroke Center, a Magnet hospital for nursing excellence, and specializes in orthopedic and spine care, heart, vascular, maternity care, and general surgery. It is also home to the region’s only 24-hour hyperbaric oxygen program, which treats carbon-monoxide poisoning, non-healing wounds, infections with oxygen-starved tissues, airborne chemical exposures, and scuba-diving accidents.
