Quality Engineer
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and coach production teams in the use of quality tools, root cause analysis, containment actions, 8D, and COPQ.
- Define and implement rework instructions, quality alerts, quality walls, and controlled shipping activities as needed.
- Analyze internal, customer, warranty, and 0km quality issues and drive corrective actions.
- Train and manage quality inspectors, including third-party resources.
- Maintain and track customer quality KPIs, process FMEAs, and build strong customer relationships through regular visits.
- Develop standard work instructions in collaboration with Manufacturing Engineering, Continuous Improvement, and HSE teams.
- Audit control plan adherence, including poka-yoke verification and process controls.
- Monitor quality KPIs, scrap performance, and escalate non-conformances.
- Maintain quality documentation and support layered process and 5S audits.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and cross-functional problem-solving teams.
- Drive preventive actions to reduce internal and customer issues.
- Support plant training, lessons learned (LL), Design for Quality (DFQ), and COPQ activities.
- Contribute to the Quality Improvement Roadmap and continuous improvement programs.
Required Qualifications
- Less Than 1 of Experience with direct customer contact and project management.
- 2-5 Years of Experience within the automotive industry.
- Must be able and willing to travel and work at customer sites, including industrial manufacturing plants which might require climbing, lifting, or working in confined spaces.
- Must be organized and able to communicate well with others.
- Must be able to perform each essential duty, satisfactorily.
- Working knowledge and demonstrated competence of IATF16949.
- IATF 16949 training as Lead Auditor.
- Certified Lead YF IOS auditor. If not, must be obtained within 1 year.
Preferred Qualifications
- ASQ Certified Quality Auditor (CQA) or Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) preferred.
- Experience managing quality and delivery issues with demanding customers; Tier 1 automotive experience is a plus.
- Strong background in problem-solving, industrial standards, and best practices within large manufacturing operations.
- Practical experience applying Lean and/or Six Sigma methodologies to improve products, processes, and workflows.
- Innovative mindset with a focus on continuous improvement and productivity gains.
- Solid knowledge of quality management systems (e.g., QS-9000, ISO/TS 16949).
- Proven track record of achieving results.
- Effective communication skills.
- Strong commitment to safety and quality excellence.
