Quality Engineer

Job Summary

General Atomics Electromagnetic Systems (GA-EMS) designs and manufactures first-of-a-kind electromagnetic and electric power generation systems. GA-EMS supports critical fleet, space systems and satellites, missile defense, power and energy, and process and monitoring applications for defense, industrial, and commercial customers worldwide. We are seeking a Quality Engineer to join our team in Acton, MA.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Analyzes design reliability and quality to recommend process changes and enhancements.
• Creates or recommends design, dimensional or manufacturing process changes to improve products and reduce costs.
• Devises and implements methods and procedures for inspecting, testing and evaluating the precision and accuracy of products and production equipment.
• Participates in functional testing and/or inspection of equipment and systems.
• Audits quality systems for deficiency identification and correction.
• Implements solutions to complex problems occurring internally and at vendor facilities.
• Makes recommendations for improvements to existing quality assurance programs and systems.
• May perform internal audits for quality systems for deficiency identification and correction.
• Creates in-process inspection plans designed to produce Objective Quality Evidence (OQE) that product conforms to customer requirements.
• Prepares statistical analysis reports, specifications and other technical documents.
• Interprets and adapts quality standards and government regulations.
• Reviews, approves and closes manufacturing build books for manufactured assemblies.
• Provides limited project direction to other staff members.
• May perform incoming material/part inspection.
• May generate nonconformance, material rejections and corrective action reports, as well as communicating final acceptance test reports with customers.
• May also generate and maintain files of all quality and as-built information for each product.
• Responsible for observing all laws, regulations and other applicable obligations wherever and whenever business is conducted on behalf of the Company.
• Expected to work in a safe manner in accordance with established operating procedures and practices.

Qualifications

• Typically requires a bachelor's or master's degree in engineering or related discipline and five or more years of related experience with a bachelor's degree or three or more years with a master's degree.
• May substitute equivalent experience in lieu of education.
• Must be able to apply a sound understanding of inspection methods and have strong knowledge of computer operations and applications.
• Must have the analytical ability required to develop creative solutions to routine and non-routine quality issues and the skills required to present those solutions to internal and external contacts.
• Strong working knowledge in reviewing/approving electrical and mechanical designs to established quality standards.
• Specifically, J-STD-001ES or similar Space standards.
• Knowledge of inspections requirements on critical projects that includes mapping defects in High Value Coating, Large Area Optics.
• Experience in aerospace technologies or similar engineering background is highly desirable.
• Working knowledge of AS9100/9102, AS478N, IPC-610/620 for inspection and repairs.
• Intermediate working level of knowledge in SAP.
• Nonconformance adjudication process knowledge/Material Review Board process knowledge.
• Currently possess or ability to obtain and maintain a “Secret” or above DOD security clearance is highly desirable.
• Knowledge/experience working with clean room environments is highly desirable.
• Able to work extended hours as required.
