About the role
The Quality Control Technician position at HC Maui is responsible for ensuring the quality of concrete and aggregate products through various tests and inspections.
Responsibilities
- Obtain samples and perform necessary tests on various concrete and aggregate products.
- Compares results against job specifications. Provides advice on remedial action if materials do not meet specifications.
- Visually inspects aggregate, sand, and other materials being produced or stored at mills, plants or quarries to ascertain quality.
- Aid in preparing concrete mix designs, preparing trial batches and aggregate submittals.
- Assist mixer drivers in determining quality and consistency of concrete.
- Make adjustments on materials and check batching and mixing of concrete.
- Advise production supervisors as to the quality of concrete aggregate manufactured at the respective quarries.
- Prepare samples of products for customers and testing laboratories and may deliver to assure safe arrival.
- Prepare mix designs and batch plant cards for the concrete division.
- Conduct tests related to checking concrete yields on the batch plant. Adjusts the batch plant weights to compensate for changes in material moisture content and specific gravity.
- Make concrete test cylinders and conduct tests to measure strength of concrete.
- Record and maintain test data and other required information.
- Perform necessary housekeeping functions in laboratory area.
- Perform daily maintenance on lab and test equipment.
- Work safely and take action to prevent any and all unsafe actions, processes, and behaviors.
Requirements
- High school graduate or GED equivalent.
- Valid Hawaii State driver’s license.
- Maintain proper certifications, licensure and acceptable driving record (where applicable).
- Able to operate testing machines and equipment.
- Able to stand for long periods of time.
- Able to climb ladders and stairs, and withstand heights.
- Able to lift and carry materials to be tested weighing up to 60 pounds.
- Possess a valid Hawaii State Driver’s License and be able to drive an automobile or pick-up truck.
- Able to use a wheelbarrow, loaded with up to three cubic feet (approximately 450 pounds) of ready-mix concrete.
- Operate concrete testing equipment and other office equipment.
- Able to work overtime and on weekends, as required.
- Able to meet tight project deadlines while maintaining quality results in their work.
Qualifications
- Competency in the use of personal computer, various software programs and other office equipment.
