Summary

Interprets engineering drawings, schematic diagrams, or formulas and confers with management or engineering staff to determine quality and reliability standards.

  • Selects products for tests at specified stages in production process, and tests products for variety of qualities such as dimensions, performance, mechanical, electrical, and/or chemical characteristics.
  • Records test data (applying statistical quality control procedures when applicable) utilizing precise measuring instruments and large test equipment.
  • Evaluates data and writes reports to validate or indicate deviations from existing standards.
  • Recommends modifications of existing quality or production standards to achieve optimum quality within limits of equipment capability.
  • Sets up and performs destructive and nondestructive tests on materials, parts, or products to measure performance, life, or material characteristics.
  • Prepares graphs or charts of data or enters data into computer for analysis.
  • Authorizes parts to be shipped.

Qualifications

  • One year certificate from college or technical school; or three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers, vendors and fellow employees.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Ability to comprehend, manipulate, and create basic Microsoft office documents (Word, Excel, Outlook, Power Point, etc.).
  • AutoCad experience a plus.
  • Organizational skills required; Mechanical ability to use tools (hand drill, rivet gun, band saw drill).
  • Ability to understand how machines run to help in troubleshooting quality issues.

  • While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts.
  • The employee is occasionally exposed to noise levels that are usually moderate and sometimes loud.
