About the role

The successful candidate will manage and integrate inspection processes to ensure high-quality products are delivered to both internal and external customers. Located in Newton, NJ, this role may occasionally require travel to other Thorlabs locations.

Responsibilities

  • Understand and implement business concepts such as inventory procedures, lead times, and MRP
  • Ensure performance meets all production and prototyping requirements of the production team
  • Create updates and presentations for management
  • Manage departmental performance measures, including visual controls and provide regular progress reports to the manager
  • Conduct annual performance reviews for team members
  • Maintain proper inventory levels in coordination with buyers and planners
  • Advise planners on potential missed dates
  • Monitor attendance, performance, training; complete performance assessments; make termination recommendations as necessary
  • Counsel poor performance up to and including termination in conjunction with the manager
  • Manage department priorities
  • Fulfill all regular production duties and complete required paperwork in a timely manner
  • Afford assistance with managing implemented quality systems
  • Identify non-conformances through specified inspection methods

Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a similar and progressive position with leadership experience preferred
  • High School education or equivalent
  • Strong computer skills such as Excel and Axapta
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and management skills
  • Knowledge of all department positions and requirements
  • Working knowledge of tooling of substrates for coating
  • Troubleshooting and problem-solving skills

Qualifications

Physical activities include standing or sitting for long durations, lifting or moving objects up to 20 pounds, grasping, manipulating, or assembling parts and components that are often very small. Noise levels in the work environment are usually moderate, but may be noisy at times. Must be able to wear appropriate clothing and personal protective equipment such as but not limited to masks, glasses, gloves, and specialty garments. The required PPE and training allow for the safe handling and processing of chemicals like adhesives, lubricants, and solvents, and safe operation of job-related equipment and tools.

Pay

$63,000 - $76,000 depending on experience
