Quality Control Specialist

About the role

Quality Control Support is responsible for monitoring the quality of incoming and outgoing parts. As a member of our control audit team, the Quality Control Inspector will:

• Examine the repair process and operational techniques.
• Ensure that the parts serviced in our facility consistently conform to industry, company, and consumer expectations.
• Minimize cost and maximize efficiency in repairs to maintain customers’ loyalty and the company’s overall reputation.

Quality controllers work side-by-side with shop personnel. They receive guidelines and specifications to be tested from quality auditors. After examining a part’s appearance and functionality, quality controllers write assessments for quality auditors, offering corrective feedback if the quality of the part is compromised. They then follow up with any updated processes put in place by quality auditors to avoid future defects.

Responsibilities

• Read blueprints and specifications.
• Monitor operations to ensure they meet production standards.
• Recommend adjustments to the production process.
• Inspect, test, and measure materials and products.
• Measure parts with rulers, calipers, gauges, or micrometers.
• Operate electronic inspection equipment and software.
• Accept or reject finished items.
• Remove all parts and materials that fail to meet specifications.
• Report inspection and testing data.

Requirements

• 3 years of experience using precision measuring equipment such as micrometers, calipers, depth gauges, and indicators.
• Experience reading and interpreting blueprints, GD&T, and specifications.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience using Faro arm/laser tracker.
• Experience with AutoCAD/SolidWorks.
• Government or Naval specification experience.

Physical Demands

While performing the essential functions of this position, the employee is frequently required to:

• Stand, walk, use hands and fingers to handle or operate precision measuring instruments and equipment, and reach with hands and arms.
• Occasionally sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or bend while inspecting parts and materials.
• Frequently lift, carry, push, or pull objects weighing up to 25 pounds and occasionally move objects weighing up to 50 pounds, with assistance or appropriate material-handling equipment when necessary.

The position requires sufficient manual dexterity and close visual acuity to read blueprints, inspect parts for defects, take precise measurements, enter data, and operate inspection equipment and computer software.

Work Environment

Work is performed primarily in an industrial machine shop and manufacturing environment, with occasional work in an office setting. The employee may work near moving mechanical equipment and may be exposed to:

• Moderate to loud noise levels.
• Dust, metal particles, oils, grease, and fumes.
• Welding activity and varying temperatures.

The employee must follow all established safety procedures and wear required personal protective equipment, which may include safety glasses, hearing protection, steel-toed or other approved safety footwear, gloves, and additional protective equipment based on the work being performed.
