Quality Control Shift Supervisor – Decatur, IL
About the role
This exempt-level position leads the lab team to ensure safe operations, compliance with environmental laws, and conformance to customer quality standards and good laboratory practices. Under the direction of the facility QC Lab Manager, this role manages and facilitates key functions of the QC lab, including data management, sampling and testing programs, technician training, regulatory compliance, continuous improvement, and instrument maintenance.
Responsibilities
- Support the QC lab safety program and facilitate ADM safety initiatives.
- Facilitate continuous improvement programs and efforts.
- Train, lead, and develop laboratory technicians in all aspects of in-process and finished product testing.
- Develop, implement, and maintain laboratory records and procedures, adhering to applicable food standards, regulations, and ADM Quality initiatives.
- Assist with day-to-day lab operations, including ordering laboratory supplies on a monthly and as-needed basis.
- Standardize, maintain, verify, and optimize QC laboratory data inputs and outputs, including chromatography review and documentation review.
- Maintain laboratory instrumentation by completing routine maintenance and troubleshooting.
- Assist in review and optimization of analytical testing schedules and models for both internal and external testing.
- Assist in root-cause analyses for quality and food safety non-compliance.
- Demonstrate logical problem-solving in situations involving product quality while involving appropriate personnel.
- Provide leadership through feedback, setting a good example, and holding technicians accountable for their work and behavior.
- Exhibit professionalism in interactions with plant and lab colleagues, including handling questions about result accuracy.
- Show ownership of the lab, equipment, work area, and results.
- Demonstrate initiative by taking on tasks with minimal guidance (e.g., self-training, creating worksheets and SOPs).
- Collaborate with peers to accomplish tasks and contribute to team goals.
- Communicate ideas for problem-solving and relay necessary information clearly.
- Systematically work through problems to determine solutions for both equipment and results.
- Complete other tasks as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, biochemistry, biology, or other relevant field (preferred).
- QA/QC experience (preferred).
- Leadership experience (preferred).
- Strong safety record and dedication to safety initiatives.
- Solid understanding of Microsoft Office Suite (desired).
- Solid understanding of statistics (desired).
- Solid understanding of cGMP, cGLP, and FCC (desired).
- Solid understanding of HACCP (preferred).
- Ability to troubleshoot standard lab equipment (e.g., HPLC, GC, Karl Fischer titrator, protein analyzer) (preferred).
- Ability to work both as a team member and independently.
- Excellent interpersonal skills to provide mentorship and feedback.
- Desire to drive continuous improvements in processes and programs.
Working Conditions
Employees in this position may be exposed to temperature extremes, dust, and various potential chemical and food allergens due to the nature of the business and job requirements. Domestic travel is minimal but expected. This role is assigned to the same shift as an hourly crew and is subject to change, including fixed 1st, 2nd, 3rd, or swing shifts. Holidays and weekends are worked based on the assigned schedule.
Pay
The pay range for this position is $58,100.00 – $108,000.00. Base pay may vary depending on market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Hourly and salaried non-exempt employees will also receive overtime pay for qualifying hours.
