About the role
The Quality Control (QC) Manager provides technical expertise, support and guidance to Standard Construction’s quality control department, internal and external customers, and the sales team to ensure the highest product quality and customer service. The manager builds partnerships with other leaders and their teams, working collaboratively to meet shared company objectives while demonstrating continuous leadership in the core values of Safety, Integrity, and Quality.
Responsibilities
- Provide leadership that develops and sustains a team supporting the core values of Safety, Integrity & Quality.
- Support and lead the QC team in safe production activities with the goal of sustaining zero incidents.
- Maintain QC/QA processes for facilities to ensure compliance with state and federal requirements.
- Create awareness among personnel regarding key performance indicators (KPIs) and cost control.
- Support product quality and customer service by maintaining strong communication with all lines of business, management, and their teams.
- Support customers and the sales team by coordinating sample collection, packaging, testing, and shipment.
- Interact directly with internal and external customers to meet material submittal and testing deadlines.
- Collaborate with internal HMA production and QC to meet production needs.
- Troubleshoot customer issues by analyzing and evaluating specific conditions to benefit both the company and the customer.
- Manage employee performance through Frontline Leadership Training, including coaching, feedback, rewards, and discipline.
- Maintain current QC/QA certifications.
- Serve as a Prism master user to enter, review, and revise product changes and active mixtures.
- Strictly adhere to safety requirements and procedures outlined in Standard Construction safety policies.
- Comply with all applicable regulations, including MSHA and OSHA, as well as state, federal, and company policies.
- Oversee and ensure lab equipment and reference materials are maintained and up‑to‑date.
- Mentor staff in technical, operational, customer‑relations, and supervisory functions.
- Maintain regular and timely onsite attendance.
- Actively participate in industry associations within the company’s footprint.
- Maintain working relationships with state, local, and private agencies.
- Manage all financial aspects of the quality control business unit.
- Perform business management duties such as maintaining records, preparing reports, and ordering supplies and equipment.
- Review tests and procedures to ensure results conform to established policies.
- Oversee specialty products and tight‑tolerance blends, including testing and creating new products.
- Conduct laboratory tours and explain operating procedures to the public and visitors.
- Manage laboratory and field QC technicians, including workloads, schedules, and staffing needs.
- Verify and oversee all training and certifications for lab employees.
- Assist with interviewing and hiring processes as needed.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Four or more years of experience in quality control (preferred).
- Two or more years of experience managing a staff of two or more employees.
- A Geology Engineering or technical degree may substitute for experience on a year‑by‑year basis.
- Certifications (or ability to obtain): ArDOT Basic Aggregate and HMA Certification, TDOT HMA Certification (including mixture design), MDOT CAT I and CAT II.
