About the role
CableMaster, a GCG company, is seeking a Manufacturing Quality Assurance Specialist to join their production team. This is a hands-on quality role for someone who enjoys working directly with manufacturing teams and cross-functional partners to solve problems, improve processes, and ensure products consistently meet customer and industry requirements.
Responsibilities
- Partner with the Quality Manager to maintain and continually improve the company's Quality Management System (QMS), ensuring alignment with customer requirements, applicable industry standards, and internal quality expectations.
- Conduct and support internal and external quality audits, identify nonconformances and process gaps, document findings, and help drive corrective and preventive actions through resolution.
- Maintain traceability of customer and product requirements through production, final inspection, nonconformance documentation, and defect resolution.
- Develop, document, maintain, and improve quality assurance processes, and provide employees with training and guidance on those processes.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives across products and manufacturing processes, working with cross-functional teams to improve quality, consistency, efficiency, and confidence in finished products.
- Write, review, and revise quality documentation including Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), work instructions, process flows, control plans, and Process Failure Mode and Effects Analyses (PFMEAs).
- Support customer complaint investigations by inspecting returned products, gathering relevant information, identifying potential causes, and helping coordinate timely corrective action.
- Lead and maintain the calibration system, helping ensure measurement and inspection equipment is appropriately tracked, calibrated, and documented.
- Maintain supplier and internal chemical compliance records and supporting documentation.
- Review supplier Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) documentation, identify gaps or concerns, and provide feedback to suppliers as appropriate.
- Prepare and maintain PPAP documentation for submission to customers and support First Article Inspection (FAI) and related quality documentation requirements.
- Partner with production, engineering, operations, suppliers, and other functional teams to identify quality risks and resolve issues before they affect customers or production performance.
- Identify quality and compliance training needs and help coordinate appropriate training and follow-up.
- Promote a culture of continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to strengthen manufacturing and business processes while supporting customer requirements for quality, delivery, and reliability.
- Communicate effectively with employees at all levels of the organization as well as customer quality teams, engineers, suppliers, and third-party auditors.
Requirements
- 3+ years of professional experience in quality assurance, quality engineering, manufacturing quality, or a closely related role.
- Previous experience conducting or supporting quality audits.
- Working knowledge of Quality Management Systems and quality methodologies, including ISO 9001 and related quality standards.
- Experience with quality tools and processes such as root cause analysis, corrective action, process improvement, quality metrics, and nonconformance management.
- Knowledge of PPAP processes and quality documentation used to support manufacturing and customer requirements.
- Ability to review, create, and maintain technical quality documentation such as SOPs, work instructions, control plans, process flows, and PFMEAs.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to investigate quality issues, determine root causes, and help implement sustainable corrective actions.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to maintain accurate quality records and documentation.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with production employees, managers, engineers, suppliers, customers, and auditors.
- Ability to influence and guide cross-functional teams without direct reporting authority.
- Ability to work effectively in a manufacturing environment that routinely involves standing, walking, sitting, bending, and other movement throughout the facility.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field preferred.
- ISO 9001 or IATF 16949 Lead Auditor certification.
- Experience working within ISO 9001 and/or IATF 16949 quality systems.
- Familiarity with PPAP and First Article Inspection requirements, including familiarity with AS9100-related FAI practices.
- Familiarity with wire and cable manufacturing, cable assemblies, wire harnesses, or related manufacturing processes.
- Knowledge of relevant IPC standards, including IPC/WHMA-A-620, IPC-A-610, and J-STD-001.
- Experience supporting supplier quality activities, including supplier PPAP reviews and corrective actions.
- Experience managing calibration, document control, or chemical compliance programs.
- Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or other continuous improvement methodologies.
