About the role

The ideal candidate should be able to demonstrate the ability to:

  • Serve as a flexible resource within the Quality Engineering department, filling operational gaps in inspection, NC origination, and workflow coordination as priorities shift.
  • Perform in-process, final, and receiving inspection in accordance with applicable drawings, specifications, and inspection plans when inspection capacity requires support.
  • Originate Nonconformance Reports (NCRs) as needed; identify, document, tag, and segregate nonconforming hardware.
  • Follow up on corrective action implementation and effectiveness verification timelines; escalate overdue items to the Quality Manager.
  • Administer the internal audit program — maintain the annual audit schedule, assign lead auditors, track finding closure, and ensure all AS9100 QMS elements are audited within required intervals.
  • Conduct internal audits as a qualified lead auditor against AS9100 requirements.
  • Issue audit findings and nonconformances; coordinate with process owners to develop and implement corrective actions within defined timelines.
  • Prepare internal audit summary reports and present results to Quality Management for management review input.
  • Assist with special projects, process improvement initiatives, and QMS documentation updates as assigned.
  • Interface with production, manufacturing engineering, supply chain, and program management to remove roadblocks impeding quality workflow.
  • Participate in the AS9100 quality program.
  • Participate in the Nadcap Chemical Processing program.
  • Act as the SME towards obtaining and maintaining penetrant inspection capabilities.

Qualifications

  • Education: High school diploma - relevant field experience in aerospace or manufacturing quality is accepted in lieu of formal education.
  • Skills: Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and GD&T per ASME Y14.5. Strong organizational and project coordination skills; ability to manage multiple open items across concurrent programs. Clear written and verbal communication with production, engineering, and management personnel. Proficiency with quality tracking systems, ERP/MRP software, and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook). Familiarity with AS9100 nonconformance control requirements (Clause 8.7) and corrective action processes (Clause 10.2). Working knowledge of AS9100 Rev D QMS requirements sufficient to plan and conduct internal audits. Analytical thinking for identifying workflow inefficiencies and escalating quality risk. Demonstrated experience in quality inspection, NC processing, or a quality coordination role. Project coordination or scheduling experience preferred.
  • Experience: 2 years in aerospace or other regulated manufacturing environment.
  • Training: On the job training. AS9100 internal auditor certification is required to be completed within 1 year of placement. ASNT Level II, Liquid Penetrant Inspection Certification is required to be completed within 1 year of placement.
