About the role
This position oversees and maintains quality control procedures and programs to ensure customer expectations are consistently met in a new, highly automated facility in Columbus, Mississippi. The Quality Assurance Manager reports directly to the Operations Manager with a dotted line to the Corporate Director of Quality Management.
Responsibilities
- Verify that inspection procedures used by all personnel are accurate and compliant with established quality control standards.
- Lead and manage a team of quality professionals to ensure parts meet all customer specifications.
- Maintain and update quality control standards and procedures, ensuring all relevant personnel are informed and compliant.
- Support the management team in maintaining ISO 9001 compliance and assist during ISO and customer audits.
- Oversee the inspection of incoming and outgoing materials to confirm specifications are met.
- Evaluate rejected material (both internal and external) and manage the corrective action system to reduce nonconformances and waste.
- Manage Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) submissions to customers and ensure all requirements are satisfied.
- Develop and implement programs to educate, train, and update all personnel on quality control procedures.
- Manage the gage calibration system, ensuring all gages are properly calibrated and maintained.
- Integrate new inspection technologies to enhance accuracy and efficiency in the inspection process.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Operations Manager or Corporate Director of Quality Management.
Qualifications
- 8-10 years of experience in a quality management role, preferably within the metal fabrication industry.
- 4-year college degree or equivalent, preferably with a technical or engineering focus.
- Lead activities and reporting to gain and maintain IATF/ISO certification.
- Familiar with customer/supplier PPM.
- Utilize quality tools such as APQP, PPAP, FMEA, SPC, Control plans, 8D, 5 Why.
- Experience with Steel/Aluminum surface inspection for exposed and unexposed automotive applications.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints.
- Advanced skills in problem solving and Statistical Process Control (SPC).
- Experience in hiring, developing, and managing a team of quality professionals.
- Proficient in using measurement tools such as calipers, height gauges, protractors, etc.
- Strong knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
- Experience with Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM).
