Quality Assurance Analyst - 3rd Shift
About the role
The analyst position is key in maintaining the quality of incoming ingredients, in-line product, and finished product. This person shall report any non-conformance of finished product to the QA Supervisor or Manager. Responsibilities
- Maintains a basic understanding of key testing attributes and follows the Work Practices in the Quality Assurance Manual.
- Reports processing problems or packaging line issues immediately to the Production Supervisor and QA Manager.
- Collects retain samples at prescribed frequency and maintains samples in an organized fashion.
- Maintains adequate inventory of lab-prepared colors and flavors.
- Maintains a clean and orderly lab work area and performs calibration of lab equipment when assigned.
- Monitors critical control points (CCPs) for pH, water activity, and metal detection.
- Follows and maintains awareness of the plant Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and reports anything that might have a negative impact.
- Follows Good Laboratory Practices (GLPs) established by the QA Manager and safety guidelines established by plant management.
- Ensures quality, food safety 5S, OSHA, and HACCP support programs and assures conformity to all company, customer, and government standards.
- Participates in activities related to Marzetti Operational Excellence.
- Applies basic science skills: math, accurate data collection, general lab techniques, and computer data entry.
- Demonstrates dependability and timeliness.
- Exercises strong written and verbal communication skills; is detail-oriented with the ability to follow detailed instructions and specifications.
- Works independently on pre-assigned tasks, multi-tasks, organizes job tasks, and maintains the workspace.
- Performs any and all other duties assigned due to business needs.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in food science, microbiology, or a related field preferred, or 2 years of relevant experience.
- Ability to work cooperatively with a team.
- Strong oral and written communication skills and computer skills required.
Working Conditions / Environment
Works in a laboratory and manufacturing environment where the employee is regularly required to speak, read, sit, stand, walk, climb, crouch, lift, reach, grasp, and bend while moving about the facility. Requires some lifting of moderately heavy items such as test equipment and product cases. Must be able to stand for an 8–10-hour shift (sometimes longer) with regular breaks while performing repetitive tasks. May be required to work overtime and/or weekends as needed. The employee may be exposed to non-ambient temperatures, odors, dust, oil, slippery floors, moving parts/equipment, and handling hazardous testing and sanitation chemicals. Noise levels are moderate in the lab and loud in the plant. Personal protective equipment such as ear protection, eye/face protection, hair/beard nets, steel-toed/slip-resistant shoes, and gloves are required as necessary in accordance with company GMP and safety standards.
