About the role

Virginia Credential Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP-A) collaboratively sets the clinical direction of services provided to individuals through the development of the Individualized Recovery Plan (IRP). Supports individuals through day-to-day needs and the overall recovery process, including crisis stabilization when needed. Assists individuals to achieve maximum independence through delivery of services outlined in their plan, providing supportive counseling, training, and community integration to individuals with a mental health disability.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate a positive regard for individuals and their families and/or support systems (e.g., demonstrate respect for individuals, allowing risk-taking, avoiding stereotypes, advocacy, believing individuals are valuable members of society).
  • Demonstrate sound clinical skills including those associated with advanced communication skills.
  • Develop essential therapeutic and collaborative relationships that foster independence and support the change dynamic and recovery process.
  • Teach skills necessary for independence and overall recovery.
  • Represent CRi at government, agency, and family meetings as needed.
  • Interact with government, community agencies, and individuals to develop a consumer network referral base.
  • Mentor CRi mental health staff to develop professional skills and assist in staff retention.
  • Assess consumer strengths, needs, and support systems to facilitate the development of individual service plans.
  • Assist/instruct consumers in implementing their individual service plans.
  • Perform crisis intervention.
  • Work as a team member, maintaining effective inter- and intra-agency working relationships.
  • Work independently, performing position duties under general supervision.
  • Communicate effectively, verbally and in writing (e.g., documentation).
  • Maintain all clinical and programmatically required documentation in compliance with all relevant regulations, insurance agencies, and/or CRi policies.
  • Establish and maintain ongoing supportive relationships with individuals.
  • Responsible for professional development, e.g., attends professional trainings and seminars related to work in the mental health field.
  • QMHPs working in residential settings will maintain all required duties and tasks regarding the overall maintenance of the home, safety of the environment, and overall assignments or needs within the program.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Requirements

  • Must be registered and in good standing with the Virginia Board of Counseling as a Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP).
  • Must meet and maintain QMHP registration requirements, including:
    • Completion of a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution.
    • Completion of 80 hours of Board-approved didactic education across required content areas (ethics, boundaries, documentation, confidentiality, cultural competence, human services).
    • Completion of 1,500 hours of supervised experience under a qualified supervisor.
    • Ongoing compliance with annual registration renewal and minimum 8 hours of continuing education (CE) per year.
  • Strong knowledge of mental health treatment modalities, crisis intervention, and service planning.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and documentation skills.
  • Valid driver’s license with good driving record.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-based care environment.

Physical Demands

Should be in good physical condition for required lifting, physical intervention for hazardous behavior, and assistance with care.
