About the role

Cornerstone is committed to total satisfaction through delivery of services, quality of life skills training and support, and continual improvement of our quality management system within Youth Residential Services. The Qualified Intellectual Disabilities Professional (QIDP) partners with the Program Director, Deputy Program Director, Intensive Behavioral Intervention (IBI) Specialist, and direct care staff at assigned service sites. The QIDP ensures each child’s active treatment program is integrated, coordinated, and monitored, resolving any discrepancies between programmatic, medical, dietary, and vocational aspects of the child’s assessment and program. This position may require working direct care shifts and performing direct care work.

Responsibilities

  • Complete an initial treatment plan for each child within 7 days of admission, addressing immediate needs and meeting regulatory requirements.
  • Update the treatment plan into an Individual Program Plan (IPP) within 30 days of admission.
  • Conduct a developmentally based comprehensive functional assessment within 30 days of admission, addressing:
    • Physical development and health
    • Nutritional status
    • Sensorimotor development
    • Affective (emotional) development
    • Speech and language (communication) development
    • Auditory functioning
    • Cognitive development
    • Vocational development
    • Social development
    • Adaptive behaviors or independent living skills
  • Identify in the functional assessment:
    • Child’s specific developmental strengths and preferences
    • Functional and adaptive social skills the child needs to acquire
    • Presenting disabilities and their causes (when possible)
    • Need for services
    • Specific developmental and behavioral management needs
  • Develop an Individual Program Plan (IPP) that includes:
    • Opportunities for the child’s choice and self-management
    • Discrete, measurable, criteria-based objectives
    • Individualized program of specialized and generic strategies, supports, and techniques
    • Objectives directed toward acquiring behaviors for self-determination and independence
    • Specific objectives to meet the child’s needs, with projected completion dates, measurable indices, and developmental progression
    • Prioritized objectives with assigned responsibilities
  • Include training in essential skills for privacy and independence (e.g., toilet training, personal hygiene, self-feeding, communication of basic needs) unless the child is developmentally incapable.
  • Create a written training program for each IPP objective, specifying:
    • Methods to be used
    • Schedule for use
    • Responsible person(s)
    • Data collection type and frequency
    • Inappropriate behaviors and adaptive replacements (if applicable)
  • Ensure implementation of the IPP by all staff working with the child, except where licensed personnel are required.
  • Periodically review and revise the IPP as necessary, including when:
    • The child completes an objective
    • The child regresses or loses skills
    • The child fails to progress after reasonable efforts
    • New objectives are considered
  • Participate in the interdisciplinary team reviewing the comprehensive functional assessment annually and update it as needed.
  • Identify mechanical supports for proper body position, balance, or alignment in the IPP, if needed.
  • Include generalization of skill training to the community when safe and appropriate.
  • Follow established clinical counseling procedures and related policies.
  • Adhere to all policies and procedures as defined in the Employee Handbook and Cornerstone Operational Policies and Procedures Manual.

Requirements

A Qualified Intellectual Disabilities Professional (QIDP) must meet one of the following criteria:

  • A licensed psychologist.
  • A licensed doctor of medicine or osteopathy.
  • An educator with a degree in education from an accredited program.
  • A social worker with a bachelor’s or master’s degree in social work from an accredited program.
  • A person with a bachelor’s or master’s degree in a human services field (other than social work) and at least:
    • Three years of social work experience under the supervision of a qualified social worker, or
    • One year of experience working directly with persons with intellectual or other developmental disabilities.
  • An occupational therapist meeting specific accreditation or experience requirements.
  • A speech pathologist or audiologist licensed pursuant to IC 25-35.6-3.
  • A registered nurse licensed pursuant to IC 25-23-1-11.
  • A therapeutic recreation specialist who is a graduate of an accredited program.
  • A rehabilitative counselor certified by the Committee of Rehabilitation Counselor Certification.
  • A physical therapist licensed pursuant to IC 25-27.
  • A person with a master’s degree in psychology from an accredited program.
  • A master’s degree in applied behavioral analysis, social work, psychology, counseling, or a related human services area approved by DCS.
  • Minimum age of 21 per licensure requirements.
  • Valid Indiana driver’s license and driving record meeting Cornerstone’s insurance eligibility requirements.
  • Must meet and maintain background screening requirements of assigned program(s).
  • No felony convictions or other criminal offenses involving a dependent population.
  • Successful completion of pre-employment physical.
  • Ability to work flexible hours and locations, including covering direct care shifts as necessary.
  • Valid Mantoux tuberculin test or chest x-ray within thirty days of employment.

    • Maintain regular attendance and punctuality.
    • Organize self and work activities, taking initiative to accomplish tasks.
    • Demonstrate cooperative attitude and tolerance for stress in critical situations.
    • Maintain confidentiality, integrity, and accountability within the scope of responsibilities.

Must have the ability to work a flexible schedule, including days, evenings, weekends, and overnight shifts. Must provide own transportation and meet insurability requirements for driving.
