Overview
The QC Project Engineer is responsible for supporting the QC Program through documentation management, redline review, as-built development, and coordination between field operations and project management. This role serves as the primary recorder of field changes and ensures accurate and timely preparation of as-built documentation in compliance with contract plans, specifications, and owner requirements.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Review superintendent markups and redline drawings for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with contract documents.
- Maintain and update redline drawings throughout the life of the project.
- Develop and prepare final as-built drawings and documentation packages in accordance with contract requirements.
- Ensure all field changes are properly documented and incorporated into record drawings.
- Clock with field staff to verify installed work matches contract documents and approved changes.
- Aid in ensuring compliance with engineering principles, project specifications, and customer contract requirements.
- Support preparation and maintenance of the project’s Quality Control documentation.
- Collaborate with Project Manager and field management to resolve discrepancies between drawings and site conditions.
- Assist with review of RFIs, submittals, change orders, and design revisions as they relate to redlines and as-builts.
- Track and document revisions resulting from approved change orders.
- Support cost and schedule impacts related to drawing revisions and field changes.
- Participate in project meetings and document key decisions affecting design or installation.
- Perform field walks to verify installation against contract drawings.
- Act as project recorder for modifications, design clarifications, and field directives.
- Coordinate with survey teams to ensure accurate record data for as-built documentation.
- Ensure all documentation meets owner requirements, including USACE standards when applicable.
- Prepare and submit redline logs, documentation trackers, and as-built status reports.
- Maintain organized digital and hard-copy drawing control systems.
- Support audit readiness and final project closeout documentation.
Education and/or Work Experience Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related technical field (or equivalent experience).
- Minimum of 5+ years of experience in heavy civil construction.
- Experience with USACE projects preferred.
- Demonstrated experience preparing and managing redline and as-built documentation.
- Strong ability to interpret complex construction plans, specifications, and contract documents.
- Experience with heavy civil site projects such as water control structures, dams, levees, concrete structures, and mass excavation preferred.
- Proficiency in construction management and document control software.
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) and PDF markup tools.
- OSHA 30-hour Construction Safety certification preferred.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.
- Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state, and local standards.
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
- Must be able to move freely about a construction site that at times present a demanding terrain including, but not limited to climbing of ladders and stair towers, uneven and often wet surfaces, and slopes.
- Must be able to talk, listen and speak clearly on telephone.
