About the role

Oversee daily quality processes, testing, and compliance for precast concrete products. Work closely with production, engineering, and project management teams to ensure product quality standards are met and drive continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct routine inspections and testing of precast concrete products during various stages of production (pre-pour, post-pour, and final inspection).
  • Review production documentation, batch reports, curing records, and inspection logs.
  • Assist with internal and third-party audits.
  • Coordinate corrective and preventive actions and track resolution effectiveness.
  • Investigate and document quality issues or non-conformances and work with production teams to implement corrective actions.
  • Monitor adherence to plant quality control manual and standard operating procedures.
  • Oversee concrete testing including slump, air content, unit weight, compression testing, aggregate gradation, and moisture testing.
  • Validate mixed designs and monitor consistency and performance.
  • Review non-conformance reports and recommend technical resolutions.
  • Analyze trends in compressive strength, defects, and production deviations.
  • Determine, monitor, and verify sample requests from sales and others, as needed.
  • Calibrate, maintain, and verify accuracy of testing equipment in accordance with industry standards.
  • Collect, analyze, and interpret QC data to identify trends and improvement opportunities.
  • Prepare weekly and monthly quality performance reports for management.
  • Maintain digital and hard-copy quality records including test results, quality non-conformances, and corrective actions.
  • Assist in KPI development related to quality metrics (rework rates, reject rates, strength averages, etc.).
  • Perform root cause analysis and report findings with recommendations to management.
  • Support the development and maintenance of quality documentation, including work instructions, control plans, and inspection protocols.
  • Provide technical guidance during new product development or specialty projects.
  • Support field issue investigations and root cause analysis.
  • Train production and quality control staff on quality standards, procedures, and best practices.
  • Provide technical direction and training to QC Supervisors and Technicians.
  • Step in for the QC Manager or Supervisor when required.
  • Promote a culture of quality, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Provide supervision, direction, and assignments to QC Technicians / QC Inspectors (as assigned).

Requirements

  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in construction management, civil engineering, materials science, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 5+ years of quality control experience in a precast, construction, or concrete manufacturing environment.
  • ACI and/or PCI Level I certification (required).
  • ACI and/or PCI Level II or III certification (preferred).
  • Knowledge of industry standards (ASTM, ACI, PCI, DOT) and materials testing procedures.
  • Strong analytical and documentation skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and quality management software (preferred).
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment in a manufacturing setting.

Physical Demands

  • Continually required to sit, use hands, talk, and hear.
  • Frequently required to stand and walk.
  • Occasionally required to drive, climb, stoop/kneel, taste/smell.
  • Must occasionally lift and/or move up to ten pounds, seldom more.

Work Environment

  • Regularly exposed to an office environment with periodic exposure to plant/field environments including noise, dirt, heat, cold, oil, fumes, and other elements.
  • Approximately 50% time spent in office and 50% in plant/field.

Travel

Occasional travel to other Tindall facilities and training.
